The technician actively supports and participates in the departments continuous quality improvement initiatives and competency assessments and demonstrates a commitment to customer service and patient safety. The technician responds to requests in a prompt and efficient manner.Level 3 technicians have demonstrated an exceptional skill level in the practice of sterile compounding non-sterile compounding automation functionality or another specialized skill set defined below.Defined Roles: Operating Room technician experienced sterile technician (see years of practice requirement within UofL Health Technician Career Ladder) repackaging as a primary role trained as a buyer as a non-primary role trained as a research technician as a non-primary role outpatient CS Parata tech as a non-primary role outpatient float technician (trained at all retail locations within health system) quality improvement project involvement serves as a disease state specialist pharmacy intern designation ability to cross cover for a patient care advocate.Essential Functions:Provides supportive services to the inpatient or outpatient pharmacyAssists with filling processing and dispensing of medications by labeling medication including bulk supplies with proper ancillary labeling and bagging procedures with final check performed by a pharmacistAnswers phones according to established phone etiquette and triages calls to the proper personnelCharges and/or credits patients for medications used via the computer systemAccurately and efficiently repackages unit dose medications including cleaning the compounding area restocking and replacing supplies documenting in the compounding record and ensuring doses are correctly labeled and prepared for pharmacist verificationPrepares medications for loading into the ADC and unloads medications from the ADC utilizing bar code scanningFills inventory requests for nursing units ADCs floor stock and fills patient specific drawers by placing the proper bins according to census profileSupports the drug inventory process including ordering rotation and restocking of drug dispensing areas with drugs and supplies needed to process patient medications ordersEnsures the maintenance of a clean and orderly work area including a sterile environmentCompletes nursing unit and inventory inspections as assigned; restocks kits and crash cart trays as requiredFills controlled substance orders reconciles all discrepancies and closes all loops on a daily basisMonitors medication activity for potential drug diversion and reports any discrepancies to thepharmacist or pharmacy leadershipDelivers medications including controlled substances to nursing units ADC as scheduled and for emergent deliveries as necessaryAssists with ensuring medications are delivered efficiently and accurately to patient care unit areas. Includes checking the tube system with each delivery retrieving and transporting medications to the appropriate locationPrepares and packages hazardous medications and adheres to all safety measures for handling hazardous medications described in USP 795/797/800Utilizes aseptic technique following department policies and procedures when compounding sterile productsIndependently resolves insurance and billing discrepanciesAssists with insurance audits and record requestsCompletes quality and process improvement processes (Specialty Pharmacy)Serves as a mentor to new pharmacy technicians pharmacy technician students and pharmacy studentsProvides guidance to certified pharmacy technicians and IPPE pharmacy student rotations as necessaryPrecepts pharmacy technician studentsExecutes hospital and pharmacy policies and proceduresInvestigates and resolves automated dispensing cabinet-related issuesUtilizes inventory management system and carousels to resolve drug distribution related issuesCovers assigned shifts as determined by departmental needFacilitates investigational drug studies with assistance of the pharmacist and/or other personnel involved in the drug studyCompletes sterile compounding training including hazardous medications and demonstrate competency on a frequency defined by pharmacy leadershipCompletes extemporaneous compounding training including hazardous medications and demonstrate competency on a frequency defined by pharmacy leadershipParticipates in orientation of new staff membersContributes to the development of policies and procedures as requested by pharmacy leadershipOther Functions:Achieves and maintains satisfactory working relationships with pharmacy leadership pharmacy staff and other departments throughout the systemAttends departmental staff meetingsPerforms tasks under the supervision of all pharmacists and pharmacy leadership;Maintains compliance with all company policies procedures and standards of conductComplies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all timesPerforms other duties as assignedAdditional Job Description:Education:High School Diploma or GED/ equivalent (required)Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician educational program and/or an Associates degree (preferred)Experience:Internal Candidates: will be eligible for promotion at yearly performance evaluation unless specifications noted within criteria below.Sterile compounding for 2 years as a primary role (calendar date of completion of compounding)Expertise in non-sterile compounding/pre-packing/kit and tray management with fulfillment as a primary role. Technician serves as a system administrator for Pharmacy Stars Unit Inspection Module Medi-dose/MILT or TraySafeControlled substance reconciliation: ability to complete reporting and waste analysisOR Technician: Staffing (dayshift) or replenishment (3rd shift) with 2 years of internal experienceOutpatient technician that fulfills an advanced technician role for automation (Med sync program ScriptPro robot and CS Parata) outpatient technician to float to all retail sitesSpecialty technician that assumes responsibilities for quality improvement projects serves on internal committees serves as a disease state specialist or has the ability to cross cover for Patient Care Advocates (PCA)Pharmacy intern designationSuburban Campus as primary working location with 2 years of experience in 2 or more multi-function roles as follows (sterile compounding non-sterile compounding primary user of MILT or Euclid kit management OR replenishment buyer as a non-primary role)External Candidates: Will be eligible for designation upon hire if 3 years of validated sterile compounding experience institutional or similar applicable experience (to be determined by hiring manager recruiter)Licensure:Registered as a pharmacy technician with the Commonwealth of Kentucky (required)Certification:Current Board certification by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcare Association (required)Note: Certification not required for second year students and/or licensed pharmacy interns Key Skills Environmental Safety,J2se,ABAP,Flexcube,Health And Safety Management,BI Employment Type : Part-Time Experience: years Vacancy: 1
