Certified Surgical Technologist at Pride Health
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an experienced Operating Room Technician (Certified Surgical Technologist) to support surgical teams in a fast-paced operating room environment. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and perioperative patient care, with at least 2 years of ophthalmology, ENT, and plastics surgical scrubbing experience. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe and sterile surgical environment, anticipating surgeon needs, assisting with procedures, and ensuring compliance with infection control and patient safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms, sterile fields, instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures.
- Perform surgical scrub duties, including sterile gowning, gloving, draping, and maintaining aseptic technique throughout procedures.
- Anticipate surgeon's needs and assist by passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies during surgery.
- Maintain accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse and report discrepancies immediately.
- Assist with specimen handling, labeling, dressing application, drainage systems, and patient positioning.
- Support patient safety by monitoring the sterile field, identifying contamination risks, and implementing corrective actions.
- Assist with room turnover, equipment decontamination, instrument reprocessing, and preparation for subsequent cases.
- Support circulating functions by ensuring the availability of supplies, equipment, and procedural documentation.
- Assist with medication preparation under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in accordance with established policies.
- Transport patients as directed and collaborate with perioperative staff to ensure efficient surgical operations.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, infection prevention standards, PPE requirements, and organizational policies.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia staff, and other healthcare professionals.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) training program required.
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required.
- Minimum two (2) years of Operating Room experience required.
- Minimum two (2) years of scrubbing experience in Ophthalmology, ENT, and Plastic Surgery procedures required.
- Experience working in a fast-paced surgical environment required.
- Strong knowledge of Operating Room Technology, Surgical Instrumentation, and Sterile Instrument Setup.
- Proficient in Surgical Scrubbing Techniques, Aseptic & Sterile Technique, and Gowning and Gloving Procedures.
- Experience with Ophthalmology, ENT, and Plastic Surgery surgical cases.
- Skilled in Specimen Handling, Sponge/Needle/Instrument Counts, and Medication Preparation Support.
- Knowledge of Patient Positioning, Patient Transfer, Room Turnover, and Equipment Decontamination.
- Understanding of Infection Prevention, OSHA Compliance, PPE Utilization, and Patient Safety standards.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary surgical team while delivering high-quality patient care.
Important Details:
- 9-week contract position (extensions available)
- Shift is 7.5-hour day (Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 05:00 PM), 37.5 hrs/week
- Location is New York, NY 10003
- Pay Range for Locals: $57 - $62 per hour
- Pay Range for Travelers: $2,600 - $2,650 per week
