Job DescriptionJob DescriptionPosition: 11th Grade Chemistry TeacherLocation: Helix Mentorship and Maritime Academy-Downtown Baton Rouge, LAEmployment Type: Full-TimeSchool Year: 2025-2026About Helix Mentorship and Maritime Academy (HMMA)Helix Mentorship and Maritime Academy is a public charter high school in the Helix Community Schools network, located in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge. As we transition into a maritime-focused academy, our mission is to blend rigorous academics with hands-on, real-world learning experiences. We are dedicated to preparing students for college, careers, and civic life through relevant, innovative, and culturally responsive instruction.Position OverviewWe are seeking a passionate, student-centered 11th Grade Chemistry Teacher to join our instructional team for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will bring deep content knowledge, a commitment to equity, and the ability to make chemistry meaningful by connecting it to maritime and real-world applications.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver high-quality, standards-based Chemistry instruction to 11th-grade studentsDesign and implement engaging, inquiry-based labs and hands-on learning experiencesConnect core chemistry content to maritime, environmental, and real-world contextsFoster a safe, structured, and academically focused classroom environmentUse assessment data to differentiate instruction and meet the diverse needs of learnersCollaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiativesMaintain consistent communication with families to support student growthAdditional ExpectationsAll HMMA teachers are expected to sponsor at least one club or Enrichment block as part of their full-time role (not eligible for additional compensation)As a Verizon Innovative Learning School (VILS), teachers are expected to integrate technology effectively and support digital equity for all studentsActive participation in professional learning communities and a commitment to continuous improvement are essentialQualificationsBachelor's degree in Chemistry, Science Education, or a related field (required)Louisiana teaching certification in Chemistry or eligibility to obtain certification (preferred)High school teaching experience strongly preferredStrong classroom management, planning, and relationship-building skillsDemonstrated ability to use technology and culturally responsive teaching practicesCommitment to educational equity and a growth mindsetWhy Teach at HMMA?Be part of a bold vision to reimagine high school through a maritime career lensWork alongside dedicated educators in a supportive, mission-driven environmentGain access to innovative professional development through the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools programPlay a vital role in closing opportunity gaps and expanding access to STEM and career-based pathways
