DescriptionLocal News Chief MeteorologistWDSU the NBC affiliate in New Orleans LA has an opening for a Chief Meteorologist. We are looking for someone who knows the science of forecasting and can tell a relatable weather story. You will be an accurate forecaster convey appropriate tone for the situation summarize complicated information and be able to use the latest technology. You will also manage a team of meteorologists and will work with management to demonstrate and communicate our coverage plan to producers anchors reporters video journalists and our digital team. The Chief Meteorologist is an important part of the news management team. You will report to the News Director.ResponsibilitiesGet viewers ready with accurate compelling and understandable weather forecastsProvide immediate weather information before and during severe weather eventProvide content on TV for our radio partners and on our digital platformsUse all the latest technology available to us to tell an intriguing weather storyDeployed in the field during weather eventsSummarize facts and content for broadcastsExecute active live shots and tell compelling storiesCommunicate weather presentation vision with our team of anchors reporters video journalists and production staffProduce and publish content to online platformsWill attend weekly news manager meetingWill evaluate supervised employees and guide them to success through feedback opportunitiesWill appear at public events and community educational outreach opportunitiesRequirementsPrevious on-air experience handling breaking news and severe weather coverageIn-depth knowledge of weather science and forecastingDynamic on-air presence with a conversational weather presentationKnowledgeable about how to interpret and translate high powered radar dataProficient in using barons and or WSI graphics and technologyAbility to work mornings days nights and weekends as scheduledNWA and CBM seals are a plusRelated military experience will be consideredIn-person attendance is requiredValues in ActionAt Hearst Television we tell stories every day.
