Job DescriptionJob Description04 TeacherJob DescriptionReports to: Site Director Classification: Exempt Work Direction: The 04 Teacher shall generally work forty (40) hours each week and 10months a year in accordance with the schedule personally arranged, and mutuallyagreed to by the Site Director and Director of Early Care and Family Services. Basic Function: The 04 Teacher is responsible for the overall management of theclassroom, which includes having a working knowledge of general development ofyoung children and educational systems. The 04 Teacher is also responsible forthe active participation/contribution in the progress of the Center’seducational philosophy and environmental goals. The incumbent must demonstrateleadership and problem solving skills in and out of the classroom setting.JOB DESCRIPTION· Supervises and develops teachers, teacherassistants, and volunteers. Ensuresteaching staff meet standards and goals of State Pre-K.· Conducts feedback and coaching sessions withteaching staff. Shows teaching staff howto correlate standards, goals and benchmark goals with lesson plans.· Ensures staff is doing what is age/developmentally appropriate for each age group.· Models for reaching staff appropriate ways ofteaching, critiquing and writing lesson plans/curriculum and offers alterativesuggestions whenever necessary.· Schedule teachers, teacher assistants forin-services.· Supervises and provides on-the-job training for teachers,teacher assistants, teacher aids and volunteers.· Recommends or initiates referral procedures for childrenwith special learning needs or other issues.· Communicates and establishes relationships with parentsthrough daily contact, in-services, meetings, orientations and educationalsessions.· Orients children and parents to the classroom.· Addresses parent concerns in a timely manner.· Prepares for, conducts and documents parent/teacherconferences.· Shares as well as receives knowledge gained throughobservations and interactions with the children the plans for future learningand growth.· Attends staff meetings, parent meetings and in-services,training sessions and approved career development seminars.· Ensure compliance with Head Start PerformanceStandards, federal, state and city regulations and licensing requirements.· Ensure performance evaluations, goal setting and staffdevelopment plans are reviewed on a periodic basis.QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge and Skills · Ability to write reports and correspondence,and read and interpret documents. · Ability to perform basic math, and to computerate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. · Knowledge of various software programs suchas MS Word, Excel, Power-Point, and Publisher. · Ability to effectively communicate withcommunity members and groups, managers, regulatory agencies, and families bothindividually and in group settings. · Conflict resolution skills. · Ability to supervise and manage staffefficiently and effectively within the guidelines of Trinity Child Carepolicies and mandates. · Ability to organize and manage timeeffectively.Education This positionrequires a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education with at Type04 State Certification along with one (1) year supervisory experience, plusthree 3) years classroom experience.Training and Experience The incumbentmust possess the knowledge of child development, licensing, and fundingstandards. The incumbent must befamiliar with legislation and advocacy of childcare services in the State ofIllinois; this includes best practices in Early Childhood Developmentstandards. Additionally, the incumbentmust possess the ability to relate and develop a mutual respect for thefamilies and children served and must possess the ability to get along withdiverse personalities, demonstrate tact, and maturity.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physicaldemands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilitiesto perform the essential functions. This position requires theTeacher to work in a clean, well-lit area. Additionally, the incumbent must be able to lift and/or move up to 30pounds. The incumbent must possess theability to stand, stoop, bend, and carry children, sit without back support for15-20 minutes at a time. The incumbentwill be required to work in or visit other Trinity UCC Child Care Centersand/or other offices/sites in the Chicagoland area responsible for administeringEarly Childhood Development services and/or activities and must be able totravel to these various locations. The incumbent must have experience workingon computers and have some knowledge of Creative Curriculum approaches to EarlyChildhood Education.
