This 42000 square foot facility has the capacity to serve 42 adults and 25 children. The Childrens Center cares for children (birth-age 12) of mothers in Portland Rescue Missions year-long New Life program.THE POSITIONTheChildrens Ministry Assistantsupports the spiritual emotional and developmental needs of children while demonstrating the love of Christ in the lives of families as they heal through our long-term recovery role is vital in creating a safe nurturing and Christ-centered environment where children (birth-age 12) can build self-esteem strengthen social skills and experience healthy relationships. Working closely with our ministry team you will help foster consistent routines engaging activities and meaningful discipleship moments while utilizing trauma-informed classroom principles.THE ESSENTIALSProgram participants with children living at Shepherds Door will know their children are well loved and cared for while they remain fully engaged in their programTeachers will be supported in focusing on the children and curriculum delivery knowing other areas of classroom needs are being met by the assistantChildrens basic needs will be consistently met including diapering feeding playing and engaging in classroom activities that develop trust and healingPortland Rescue Mission staff and volunteers will feel supported needed and honored in a classroom that is run on teamworkTeach and model Christ-centered parenting to mothers some who may have had traumatic pasts or have experienced homelessnessClearly and appropriately share the Gospel with women and children through Bible lessons worship and answering questionsInvite women and children into a relationship with Jesus Christ and disciple them in a growing spiritual lifeCreate a healthy atmosphere by teaching a playful joyful and Christlike lifestyle for families living at Shepherds DoorMaintain a well-organized clean colorful and joyful classroom and playground environmentAccept responsibility for other areas in the Childrens CenterBACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONSA personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a testimony of continued growth in faithAdheres to Portland Rescue Missions Statement of Faith and Code of EthicsA personal ethos and work ethic that reflects Portland Rescue Missions ministry culture Highly Relational Christ-Centered Joyful ServantDesire to serve God in the ministry to hurting women and childrenA pleasant gentle grace filled manner toward othersStrong team playerPrompt and thorough in job performance self-starterCreative and logical problem solving able to learn quicklyExperience in Mac and Microsoft Windows softwareAbility to lift at least 50 lbs. sit on and rise up from the floor and quickly physically engage with children unassistedValid drivers license and ability to drive large vans for field tripsEQUIPMENT USEDTelephone fax and voicemailComputerCopier and related office equipmentMISSION AND DISTINCTIVESOUR MISSIONTo demonstrate the compassion of ChristOUR UNIQUE APPROACHFrom the first sandwich that was shared in 1949 to todays fully integrated emergency recovery and training services Portland Rescue Mission is a highly relational ministry.
