Job Title: Circus Collections Summer 2026 Intern (OPS) Location: Sarasota, FL Regular/Temporary: Temporary Full/Part Time: Job ID: 61640 Department The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art is located in Sarasota, Florida, and is a department of Florida State University. Learn more about The Ringling at https://www.ringling.org/careers.Responsibilities The Circus Collections Intern will assist the Tibbals Circus Registrar on a special project to catalog and rehouse the museum’s circus costume collection. The Intern will also have opportunities to participate in other activities within the department as they arise. Intern will pursue an individual project related to their personal interests.Possible projects may include:Researching a costume/performer and writing label text for feature in gallery.Researching a costume/performer and writing article for museum newsletter, blog, or social media post.Developing and presenting a talk or tour to museum staff or the public related to the project or a costume of interest.Qualifications Ability to start internship promptly on June 5, 2026, and stay through July 31, 2026.Be currently enrolled or recently graduated with degree in history, museum studies, or another applicable field.Have interest in pursuing a career in museum collections management or registration.Ability to:Stand or stand for extended periods of time.Lift and carry up to 40 lbs.Valid Driver's License or ability to obtain prior to hire. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in a museum setting with object handling and cataloging in databases.Other Information As the Circus Collections Intern, the intern will achieve the following learning outcomes:Gain practical experience in museum registration and collections management.Develop skills in object cataloging, condition reporting, and proper storage techniques.Learn and apply museum standards for object handling and documentation.Helpful Anticipated Timeline for Applicant NotificationsBetween mid-February and early March 2026 candidates will be notified if selected or not for an interview. Offers will be made to the top candidate by end of March 2026. Employment paperwork must be completed no later than May 15, 2026, and includes:Completing a level 2 background check (must be completed within the United States)Uploading images of your signed social security card, driver's license, and DMV verification of valid driver's license into the employee onboarding portal.Interns will begin on June 5th with New Hire Orientation at 9:00 AM.Internships will end on July 31, 2026.
