Job Overview

White, Getgey & Meyer is seeking a Civil Litigation Attorney to join our insurance defense team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in insurance defense, personal injury and/or commercial litigation. This role requires management of a high-volume caseload, proficiency in handling all aspects of litigation, from the initial filing of pleadings through trial. The Civil Litigation Attorney will be responsible for representing clients and insurance carriers in court, managing cases from inception to resolution, and providing strategic legal advice to insurance carriers and their insureds. Applicants must be licensed to practice law in Ohio. Kentucky licensure is a plus, but not required.

Salary and compensation structure dependent upon experience.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in civil litigation across various practice areas, primarily first-party and third party insurance defense.
  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests.
  • Conduct depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts.
  • Detailed reporting to clients and insurance carriers.
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients and insurance carriers to achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Participate in mediations.
  • Prepare for trial by organizing evidence, developing case strategies, and collaborating with expert witnesses.
  • Conduct jury/bench trials on a first-chair and second-chair basis.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to keep them informed about their cases and provide legal guidance.
  • Maintain accurate case files and documentation in compliance with law office protocols.
  • Handling all aspects of litigated files throughout the entire State of Ohio (and Northern and Central Kentucky, if licensed in KY).
  • Requirements
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • MUST be admitted to practice in Ohio. Admission to Kentucky bar not required.
  • Experience in civil litigation with a focus on personal injury, insurance defense, and/or commercial litigation.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Proven ability to manage high-volume caseload.
  • Experience negotiating settlements.
  • Experience litigating cases effectively through trial.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
