Job SummaryUnder minimal supervision, the Senior Claims Examiner manages a caseload of moderate to high complexity Construction Defect claims. The Senior Claims Examiner will review claims to analyze and determine applicable coverage, facts, liability, damages, and plan for resolution in accordance with state and company guidelines. The Senior Claims Examiner will be recognized as having extensive claims handling experience, including the handling of complex high exposure claims.Duties and ResponsibilitiesContinuously exhibit and uphold Core Values of Integrity, Accountability, Communication and Teamwork, Innovation and Customer ServicePerform coverage, liability, and damage analysis on all claims assignmentsInvestigate allegations and determine facts based on evidence and interviewsDraft disclaimers and reservation of rights letters when coverage issues ariseAssign limited investigations and appraisals to licensed insurance professionalsManage a caseload of moderate to high complexity claims with delegated authorityManage litigated filesNegotiate settlements, mitigate losses, and control expensesParticipate in and attend mediations to facilitate settlementsMaintain accurate documentation in claim filesPrepare correspondence to all required parties involved in a claimProvide technical guidance, assistance, and training to Claims Associates and Claims ExaminersProvide exceptional customer service to insureds, claimants, and attorneys, addressing inquiries, concerns, and providing regular updates on claim statusEnsure compliance with state regulations, industry standards, and best practices in claims handling, maintaining a high level of professionalism and integrityMaintain a passing quality assurance score on all audits and QAsHandle claims in accordance with established James River Claims Best PracticesOther duties as required by managementKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesExpertise in claim handling and suit managementModerate to advanced knowledge of P&C insurance industryAbility to effectively assess riskProficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)Excellent written and verbal communication skillsExcellent organizational skillsAbility to take direction from managementAbility to work independently and take initiativeAbility to exercise sound judgement in making critical decisionsResearch, analysis and problem-solving skillsStrong negotiation skillsAbility to build effective relationships with business partnersAbility to perform effectively as part of a teamAbility to organize complex information and pay close attention to detailAbility to anticipate customer needs and take initiative to meet those needsAbility to train and provide technical guidance to less experienced Claims professionalsAbility to successfully obtain the required state adjusters' licenses within six (6) months following the completion of Company-provided licensure training courses and maintain appropriate licensure thereafterExperience and EducationHigh school diploma requiredBachelor's Degree preferredMinimum of three years of Construction Defect claims handling experience including working with complex coverage issues, handling liability and coverage issues, multi-jurisdictional claims, and negotiating settlements with claimants and attorney requiredAdjuster license and/or certifications preferred#LI-KS1#LI-RemotePlease note that this position is not eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship.
