Job DetailsJob Location Washington, DCPosition Type Full Time Salary Range $80000.00 - $83000.00 Salary/yearTravel Percentage NoneDescription CMiT is seeking a Cable Technician joining our Joint Service Provider Enterprise Transport Management - Next Gen (JSP ETM - NG) program at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA. Due to the nature of work this role entails, telecommuting is not allowed and will require the employee to report full-time onsite.ResponsibilitiesInstallation and documentation of new and/or updated Inside Plant cable infrastructure to include conduit, cable trays, copper, coax, fiber, and all associated elements in the Pentagon, Mark Center & buildings within the NCR supported by JSP. Follow JSP and commercial best practice procedures, standards required for installation of cable racks, wiring of the racks, and testing required during installation.Analyzes, administers, and maintains telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.Responsible for tasks assigned by Coordinators in connection with service orders and repair activities related to Category 6 cabling, Voice over IP networks (VOIP), and fiber optic cabling infrastructure.Dress, terminate, and test cables and components, Ability to work with power tools and laddersInstalls, maintains, and repairs voice and data communications systemsInterprets service orders, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematicsTests, locates, installs, and repairs cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls, and performs routine maintenanceVerifies work order information and receipt of all necessary equipment and informationVerifies service by testing installed cabling; identifying, correcting, or escalating problemsDocuments network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specificationsMaintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network backup procedures; updating documentationIdentify, track, and remove abandoned cable, and keep cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standardsDress, terminate, and test cables and components including CAT6 and fiber optic cabling.May supervise others.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications Required3 - 5 years of related telecommunications experience.Well-versed in the use of network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs, and fiber power meters.In-depth knowledge of TDM networksAbility to work with power tools and laddersAbility to work well with others and communicate with supervisorsComputer literate with basic Networking SkillsMaintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assignedParticipates in special projects as requiredAbility to work well with others and communicate with supervisors.Must have the ability to communicate effectively with personnel of various expertise levelsSolid Customer Support Skills in a high-visibility environmentProblem analysis and problem-solving skillsAttention to detail and accuracy.Physical DemandsWalking long distances for long periods of time, lifting material up to 50 pounds, loading equipment onto carts or shelves, moving equipment to work locations, unloading equipment, mounting equipment into racks, and trash removal.Education/Certifications RequiredBachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience required.Must be familiar with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards. BICSI certification preferred.Clearance RequiredActive Top Secret/SCI clearance
