Job Summary:

The Clinical Director serves as the primary clinical liaison between the residential treatment program and all external stakeholders involved in the care of individuals with high-acuity behavioral health needs, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and complex trauma-related presentations. This role is responsible for ensuring clear communication, coordinated treatment planning, and strong interdisciplinary collaboration to support safe, effective, and person-centered care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with government agencies, managed care organizations, Medicaid/waiver representatives, county and state funding entities, and other third-party payers to support authorizations, continued stay reviews, documentation requests, and reimbursement-related clinical communication.
  • Coordinate with internal and external treatment team members to ensure timely development, implementation, and revision of individualized treatment plans that reflect psychiatric needs, developmental considerations, trauma history, and functional abilities.
  • Ensure ongoing, professional, and trauma-informed communication with families, guardians, and other authorized supports regarding treatment progress, behavioral concerns, recommendations, crisis response, and discharge or transition planning.
  • Oversee and support medication-related communication and coordination, including clinical follow-up, informed consent processes, medication monitoring, side effect reporting, reconciliation of medication changes, and collaboration with nursing and pharmacy partners.
  • Lead multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and case reviews, ensuring that all relevant parties are aligned on clinical goals, risk management strategies, behavior support planning, medication interventions, and discharge planning.
  • Provide close oversight and monitoring of partnerships with psychiatrists, primary care providers, specialists, nursing staff, pharmacies, and medication prescribers to ensure effective coordination of medical and behavioral healthcare.
  • Ensure continuous clinical availability and responsive leadership during high-risk situations, including psychiatric crises, hospitalizations, emergency room visits, reportable incidents, and significant changes in clinical presentation.


Program Oversight & Development

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of the program and services to ensure alignment with mission.
  • Utilize data to inform continuous improvement in program design and delivery.
  • Work closely with program staff and managers to provide supervision, support, coaching, and professional feedback.



Compliance

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable licensing, regulatory, Medicaid/waiver, payer, and agency requirements governing residential, behavioral health, and developmental disability services
  • Oversee the quality, accuracy, timeliness, and clinical integrity of documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, behavioral data, incident reports, discharge planning, and utilization review materials.
  • Maintain compliance with confidentiality, privacy, consent, guardianship, and release-of-information requirements, including HIPAA and all applicable client rights protections.
  • Support survey, audit, and accreditation readiness by organizing records, preparing staff, responding to findings, and maintaining required documentation and performance standards.
  • Ensure behavior supports strategies, crisis response interventions, and any restrictive procedures are clinically appropriate, properly documented, reviewed, and implemented in accordance with applicable regulations and internal policy.
  • Partner with program leadership to review incidents, trends, grievances, and risk concerns in order to strengthen service quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Train, supervise, and hold clinical staff accountable for compliance with documentation standards, policies, ethical practice expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure mandated reporting requirements are met, including abuse, neglect, exploitation, critical incidents, and other reportable events, in accordance with legal and regulatory timelines.


Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Registered Nurse. Psychiatry preferred.
  • Background Checks:
  • Successful completion of a background check, including criminal history and fingerprinting.
  • Physical Agility Test: Successful completion of physical agility test.
  • Experience:
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience within a healthcare or residential treatment setting (preferred)
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of senior management experience, including direct oversight of programs and staff.
  • Familiarity with mental health, substance abuse treatment, or residential care services is required.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
  • Skills and Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare laws, regulations, and industry standards related to residential treatment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to train and educate staff.
  • Proficient in the use of office software (Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.)
