This role exists to support ongoing machining demand for large-diameter, heavy-duty components requiring precision turning and experienced setup capability.
The Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL) Machinist plays a critical role in safely handling large castings and forgings while maintaining tight tolerances and production efficiency.
This is not an entry-level turning role - it's for a machinist comfortable with large-scale work and complex setups.
The Work You'll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
- Perform full setups and operate CNC Vertical Turret Lathes (VTL)
- Load and secure large castings and forgings using overhead cranes and rigging equipment
- Read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T
- Verify dimensions using large-scale precision inspection tools
- Select carbide tooling appropriate for heavy-duty turning
- Monitor tool wear and adjust offsets as needed
- Perform in-process inspections to ensure parts meet specification
- Maintain a safe and organized work area
This position requires confidence working with large workpieces and maintaining dimensional accuracy on heavy components.

- Material Handling: Overhead cranes and rigging systems
- Inspection Tools: ID/OD micrometers, bore gauges, and large precision measurement tools

What We're Looking For
Required
- Proven experience operating CNC Vertical Turret Lathes
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
- Ability to read and navigate G-code programs
- Experience safely handling large workpieces using overhead cranes
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision
- Dependable, safety-conscious work ethic
Preferred
- Experience with large-diameter turning operations
- Background in heavy industrial or large-component machining environments
