This role exists to support ongoing machining demand for large-diameter, heavy-duty components requiring precision turning and experienced setup capability.

The Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL) Machinist plays a critical role in safely handling large castings and forgings while maintaining tight tolerances and production efficiency.

This is not an entry-level turning role - it's for a machinist comfortable with large-scale work and complex setups.

The Work You'll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

• Perform full setups and operate CNC Vertical Turret Lathes (VTL)
• Load and secure large castings and forgings using overhead cranes and rigging equipment
• Read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T
• Verify dimensions using large-scale precision inspection tools
• Select carbide tooling appropriate for heavy-duty turning
• Monitor tool wear and adjust offsets as needed
• Perform in-process inspections to ensure parts meet specification
• Maintain a safe and organized work area

This position requires confidence working with large workpieces and maintaining dimensional accuracy on heavy components.

• Controls: G-code based CNC controls
• Material Handling: Overhead cranes and rigging systems
• Inspection Tools: ID/OD micrometers, bore gauges, and large precision measurement tools

What We're Looking For

Required

• Proven experience operating CNC Vertical Turret Lathes
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
• Ability to read and navigate G-code programs
• Experience safely handling large workpieces using overhead cranes
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision
• Dependable, safety-conscious work ethic

Preferred

• Experience with large-diameter turning operations
• Background in heavy industrial or large-component machining environments
