Reporting to the Head, Technical Services, the Collections Strategist Librarian has Libraries-wide responsibility for building and managing the Libraries’ collections. The Collections Strategist coordinates strategic collection building with innovative management of existing content to embrace new models in scholarly publishing and communication to ensure that the collections meet the university’s teaching, learning, and research missions.Position Summary:This position will manage central collection development funds (annual budget $3.5 million) under the direction of the Head, Technical Services; Administer the selection and renewal of e-resources and additional collections resources in consultation with the Collection Management Team and individual Library Liaisons; Craft and implement strategies for collection development, budget planning, and management; Lead and manage resource access activities including licensing review and negotiation and facilitating access to licensed content; Collect and analyze cost, usage, and other relevant data to ensure that the collections budget is being spent as efficiently as possible.This position will participate in evaluating vendor offers; Prepare and present information to appropriate library groups to help inform collections decisions; participate in vendor negotiations; Serve as the primary contact for collection assessment activities that may include program reviews, accreditation reports, and internal assessments; Provide leadership for collections space planning; Incorporate data-driven and user-focused assessment methodologies to analyze the Libraries’ current collection management program; Design interpretive reports and data visualizations to best present and communicate how the Libraries judiciously develop its collections in an environment of change in scholarly communications and publishing; Encourage a culture of innovation, collaboration, and shared stewardship responsibilities that serve the university’s needs and the Libraries’ strategic goals.
