Commercial Estimator Intern at Painter Bros of Raleigh

We're seeking a detail-oriented Commercial Construction Estimator Intern to join our pre-construction team and help drive our next phase of company growth. As a Commercial Construction Estimator Intern, you'll play a pivotal role in the pre-construction phase by helping build out the estimating tool, analyzing project specifications, and collaborating with project managers to ensure profitability and competitiveness. This position requires strong analytical skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to thrive in a start-up environment. Key Responsibilities: -Assist with building out the estimating software by gathering industry data inputs and working with STACK engineers to customize templates. -Review architectural drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors. -Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor bids to ensure competitive pricing and quality alignment. -Develop comprehensive bid packages, including value engineering options to optimize project costs without compromising quality. -Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to clarify project requirements and resolve discrepancies. -Utilize estimating software (e.g., STACK) to model costs and generate reports for senior leadership. -Conduct risk assessments and provide input on project feasibility, timelines, and potential change orders. -Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, material costs, and local regulations to refine estimating accuracy. -Support post-bid activities by assisting in negotiations and finalizing contracts. Position is for 10 - 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible and most work can be done remotely if desired. There will be a fixed hourly pay + bonus on awarded jobs.
