Communications Specialist
Headquarters - Pittsburgh, PA
Scope Of Responsibility
The Communications Specialist reports directly to the Marketing & Communications Lead and works collaboratively with the Director of Public Affairs and Donor Family Services, Community Outreach Department staff, CORE leadership, and external partners to support CORE's communications, marketing, public awareness, and donor designation objectives. The incumbent is expected to work collaboratively as a member of the Community Outreach team, demonstrate sound judgment and professionalism, and consistently support CORE's mission, vision, values, and commitment to donation.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage and curate content across CORE's social media platforms, including content calendars, audience engagement activities, digital storytelling initiatives, and multimedia content.
- Create written, graphic, photographic, and video content that supports public awareness campaigns, donor designation efforts, organizational initiatives, and community outreach activities.
- Capture and produce live social media content at community events, meetings, special events, and organizational initiatives.
- Monitor social media channels, trends, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for increased engagement, visibility, and communications effectiveness.
- Manage and create content for CORE's Volunteer and Donor Family Facebook pages, fostering engagement, stewardship, recognition, and ongoing connection to CORE's mission.
- Develop, write, edit, and coordinate internal and external communications materials including newsletters, publications, presentations, marketing collateral, digital communications, and organizational messaging.
- Manage and maintain website content to ensure information remains accurate, current, engaging, and aligned with organizational priorities while supporting a positive user experience.
- Oversee content displayed on CORE's front lobby digital monitors and displays, ensuring messaging is timely, engaging, and reflective of CORE's mission, programs, events, and strategic initiatives.
- Support media relations activities through media monitoring, maintaining media databases, drafting press releases and supporting materials, coordinating interview logistics, gathering information for media inquiries, and assisting with announcements, campaigns, and events.
- Monitor, track, analyze, and report on social media, website, digital marketing, media, and communications performance metrics. Provide recommendations to improve content effectiveness, audience engagement, and overall communications outcomes.
- Collaborate with internal departments, external vendors, agencies, healthcare partners, volunteers, and community organizations to support strategic communications and marketing initiatives.
- Provide graphic design, photography, videography, writing, editing, and other creative support for departmental projects, campaigns, events, and communications materials.
- Assist with the development and implementation of communications campaigns, public awareness initiatives, and donor designation efforts that support organizational goals.
- Participate in community outreach activities, professional development opportunities, organizational committees, and industry associations that support CORE's mission and strategic priorities.
- Travel throughout CORE's designated service area, including overnight travel, and working evenings and weekends to support meetings, conferences, events, outreach activities, and organizational initiatives.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Marketing & Communications Lead, Director of Public Affairs and Donor Family Services, and/or President/CEO.
Qualifications
The position of Communications Specialist requires a bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Digital Media, or a related field and a minimum of one to three years of experience in communications, marketing, social media, digital media, or a related field. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office, content management systems, website management platforms, social media management tools, and communications analytics platforms.
The candidate must possess a valid driver's license and be able to lift up to 30 pounds, transport and set up displays and materials, and sit or stand for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be willing to travel throughout CORE's designated service area, including overnight travel, and be available to work evenings and weekends.
