Salary/Position Classification$920 monthly Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)15-20 hours per week100% Remote Work Availability: NoHybrid Work Availability (requires some time on campus): NoPurpose of PositionThis is a part-time non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.The Community Assistant (CA) is a student staff member who lives within an undergraduate or graduate residence hall apartment style housing or apartment community. CAs are primarily responsible for providing support and assistance to these communities through their work. The CA advises hall government/community council plans and implements social and educational programs and serves as an advocate leader role model resource and referral person for the students and staff members within their on-campus communities. The CA also serves in an on-call coverage rotation and assists the Resident Director (RD) with specific tasks in the administrative operation of the community. The CA is a staff member of Housing & Residence Life a subdivision of Student Affairs and reports to a Resident Director (RD).Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe Community Assistant position is a student leader position responsible for providing support and assistance to a Resident Director (RD) within a residence hall apartment style housing or on-campus apartment community.The CA assists the RD with specific duties in the operation of their communities. These include:Assisting with the coordination and implementation of hall area and campus-wide programming initiativesServing as an advisor for Hall Government/Community Council through student leadership development attendance at meetings budget tracking and event planningTracking RA/RM programming requirements and budgetCoordinating and overseeing the RA/RM on-duty/desk scheduleConducting monthly key audits Assisting in building occupancy and facility managementCompleting monthly/semesterly community-wide administrative safety inspections and furniture inventoriesServing office hours and being available to residents on a daily basisAssisting in communicating with residents through one-on-one conversations building-wide messaging electronic newsletter content development and/or hall social media presenceAssisting in facilitating training and staff development programsServing on departmental collateral committees Attending one-on-one meetings weekly staff meetings and monthly all staff meetingsParticipating in a campus-wide duty rotationAssisting with Housing & Residence Life and Admissions events to promote on-campus living to current and incoming studentsParticipating in ongoing constructive evaluation of the Community Assistant program residence life procedures and personal job performanceThe CA position is based on a twenty-hour work week. This will fluctuate from week to week based on the variable nature of the job tasks.The position is demanding in time and effort and availability is a large part of being a successful CAA work week is typically defined as Sunday through Saturday. CAs are responsible for managing their work week. More specifically this position involves:Designated for a weekly 1:1 meeting with your supervisor.Designated for weekly staff meeting at a time to be determined by your RD.Designated for weekly hall government/community council co-advising.Designated for departmental staff or collateral meetings.Designated for posted office hours and administration responsibilitiesTasks that may be completed during office hours include occupancy management health & safety inspections furniture inventory fire & safety equipment inventory incident reports fire drill reports/evaluations and other administrative tasksDesignated as community building responsibilitiesResponsibilities may include planning and hosting residential curriculum hall/area programs hosting floor/hall meetings assisting with theme meal programming participating in living learning community initiatives residential curriculum requirement tracking and assisting with new or current student outreach events etc.On call responsibility on a rotating basis.Duty phone is picked up & turned on Sun-Thu 4:30 pm-8:00 am and Fri-Sun 4:30 pm-4:30 pm. While on call the CA is not restricted to campus but must be able to respond to a call within 15 minutesMinimum RequirementsMust be eligible for employment through the UND Institutional EmploymentMust be enrolled as a student at UND for Fall 2024 Spring 2025Must hold and maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 2.50 or aboveMust have served in the Resident Assistant or Resident Manager position for at least two consecutive semesters prior to employmentMust be in good conduct standing at the start of their addition CAs are expected to abide by all federal state and local laws; abide by the rules and regulations of the University of North Dakota the Division of Student Affairs and those of the Department of Housing & Residence LifeMay not hold outside employment internship CFI or student teach during their term of employmentMust meet the residence hall apartment style housing or apartment lease eligibility requirement and reside in assigned on-campus housing assignment throughout the terms of their employmentEmployment is contingent upon completion of a nationwide criminal history background checkPossess strong organizational and time management skills including being detail orientated the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks appropriately and complete administrative responsibilities by given deadlinesDemonstrate a high level of maturity critical thinking sound judgement and effective communication skillsBe approachable and display a genuine interest in the welfare and personal development of staff members and residentsSupport a positive and scholarly environment within the residence hall apartment style housing and apartment communitiesEncourage and support students in their leadership and involvement in residence hall government/apartment community council programming and campus activitiesPromote inclusivity through the appreciation and understanding of the various identities of others by promoting the sharing of ideas and knowledge in a residence hall/apartment community settingHave a working knowledge of all aspects of the University of North Dakota to appropriately assist the RD acting as a liaison between the RD and other students and community members.Demonstrate a commitment to the Housing & Residence Life program and the position of a CASuccessful completion of a Criminal History Background CheckIn compliance with federal law all persons hired will be required to verify identityand eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.To ApplyFor full consideration applications must be received by the closing date and include the following materials: Application Cover Letter Two Letter of RecommendationPlease include in the application if you are currently or have in the past 12 months been employed with the University of North Dakota the North Dakota University System or any other North Dakota State agency.
