Joining us means joining a caring responsible and innovative company where more than 70000 people lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwideIn your role as aComposite Mechanic you will:Inspect repair and maintain diesel-powered vehicle and perform a variety of tasks including basic maintenance engine overhauls and may also work on a vehicles electrical system replace parts like the power assembly cooling system mechanism or braking system and retrofit engines with emission control systems.Primary Activities and Responsibilities:Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).Inspect maintain troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in engines air brake equipment running gear or locomotive components.Perform equipment work order management using asset management database.Operate locomotive passenger coaches and prime mover as part of team to move rail equipment.Additional duties as assigned in accordance with union agreement and incidental work rule provisions.Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma/GEDValid Drivers License2 years of combined mechanical and/or electrical work experience in a relevant field (Formal education may be substituted for experience)Experience reading and interpreting blueprintsExperience in interpreting circuit schematicsPreferred QualificationsMust have strong analytical skillsAbility to read and understand safety instructions manuals and directives.Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.Ability to follow detailed instructions and complete tasks accurately.Ability to solve basic problems and escalate issues to supervisors as necessary.Basic CompetenciesVerbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications--both general and technical)Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)Mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of electrical theoryMust be able to obtain Qualified Maintenance Person (QMP) designation and qualificationDriving record needs to be absent any moving convictions for alcohol or substance abuse within the previous 36 monthsMust have basic proficiency with Windows software and Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e. Outlook)Physical RequirementsHeavy work lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basisStoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on a regular basisPush/pull/grip/carry on a regular basisWalking long distances over uneven terrainDemonstrate auditory and visual acuityExposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basisEmployment ConditionsWork safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuriesWear protective equipment such as hard hat hearing protection safety-toe boots and safety glassesWork hours may include a nonstandard workweek overtime and various shift workComplete annual training and pass safety rules examinationSubject to random testing for drugs and/or alcohol per certificationsMust pass all required assessmentsRequired to pass a post-offer medical examination including drug and alcohol testing.This position will be governed by a collective bargaining agreement membership is requiredActive employees must complete one year in current position or craft before applying for positionsSalary Rate:$28.68/hourAlstom is the leading company in the mobility sector solving the most interesting challenges for tomorrows mobility.
