IntroductionThe Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Marylands $49 billion insurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers and insurance professionals compliance with State law. Staff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers consumers and other public and private entities.The MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland the conduct of financial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency and the review and approval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life health automobile homeowners and/or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law. The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually.GRADE17LOCATION OF POSITIONBaltimore City or Hybrid (between office and telework)POSITION DUTIESThe Maryland Insurance Administration is recruiting to fill the positionof Computer Information Services Specialist II. This position performstechnical support for MIA end users by answering technical support telephonecalls logging problem tickets in E-Helpdesk system troubleshooting hardwareand software issues and resolving problems with computers peripherals andwireless devices. The incumbent will develop new images for MIAworkstations install new images configure user desktops and laptops withaccess to network and printers and other peripheral devices; and create anddeploy applications and security patches using server based automated tools ( Intune). The Computer Information Services Specialist II identifiesand deploys appropriate security patches to desktop and laptop computers;administers end user accounts and permissions on Active Directory and Googleemail; sets up new users group email accounts and distribution lists anddisable accounts as required; and conducts periodic audits of the hardware andsoftware inventory.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Graduationfrom an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalencycertificate.Experience: One year of experienceevaluating implementing and maintaining personal computer hardware andsoftware.Notes: may substituteexperience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computersor operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entrywordprocessing spreadsheet graphics database or otherapplications on ayear-for-year basis for the requirededucation. may substitutenine credit hours in personalcomputer applications at an accreditedcollege university or institution for oneyear of the requiredexperience. may substitutethe completion of a certification program in computer repair such as MicrosoftA or an equivalent program for one year of the required experience.4. Candidates may substitute Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Cyberand Information Systems classifications or Cyber andInformation Systemsspecialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-yearbasis for therequired experience.SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONSApplicants who meet the minimum qualifications will beevaluated. Installing and configuring peripheral devices (printers scannersmulti-function copiers etc). Configuring and deploying mobile devices (tablets smartphones). Creating and administering Active Directory and eDirectory accounts andpermissions.
