DescriptionLocation: Marietta GAPosition Type: Full-time in officePosition SummaryThis is a handson Construction Controller role where the position owns the entire accounting function: payroll time keeping basic bookkeeping AIA billing/pay applications AR/AP job cost accounting WIP generation including over/under billings monthend close reconciliation CFOstyle reporting cash flow forecasting and development of financial reports. You will standardize processes implement controls build dashboards and deliver actionable insights.Key Outcomes (What Success Looks Like)Ø Monthend close by with accurate P&L Balance Sheet and Cash Flow.Ø Generation and maintenance of Work in Progress reports including over-/under-reporting based on earned revenueØ Analyze costtocomplete and actual vs estimated reports to identify red flags then report to executive management and project operations for further action by those teams.Ø Job Cost according to CSI cost code budgets variance reporting and communication with executive and project operations staff then red flags are discoveredØ AR discipline: clean AIA pay apps generation with input from the project operations team ensure project billings remain current and dont lag ensure accuracy in numbers to minimize client rejections. Ø AP discipline: PO/commitment plus matching approval thresholds enforced weekly pay runs on schedule.Ø 13week cash forecast updated weekly and rolled forward monthly.Ø KPI dashboard monthly: DSO DPO backlog GM cash conversion change order cycle time.Core ResponsibilitiesProject Accounting & Billing (AIA)Ø Build SOVs and prepare AIA G702/G703 pay applications; manage retainage conditional/unconditional lien waivers and compliance packets.Ø Coordinate with PMs for percentcomplete approved change orders and SOV updates.Ø Maintain change order log (approved vs pending) and margin impact.Accounts Receivable & CollectionsØ Issue invoices/pay apps post receipts and retainage monitor AR aging and drive collections with documented notes and escalation.Ø Track retainage releases at substantial completion/closeout.Accounts Payable Commitments & PurchasingØ Onboard vendors/subcontractors (W9 COI agreements); maintain vendor master with strong controls.Ø Implement PO/commitment process tied to budget; perform 3way match (PO/receiver/invoice).Ø Code AP to job and cost code; schedule weekly payment runs; manage sales/use tax and 1099NEC.Job Costing & WIPØ Maintain cost code structure; ensure accurate job cost postings (labor materials equipment subs GC).Ø Prepare monthly Work in Progress reports based on earned revenue including over/under billings and update the balance sheet to match. Ø Analyze budget vs actual by cost code; publish variance commentary and gross margins at completion.Close & ReportingØ Own GL: accruals deferrals revenue recognition prepaids fixed assets bank/credit card reconciliations.Ø Publish a monthly Controllers Book: P&L BS WIP; Job Cost to Budget; AR/AP aging; and cash flow reportingØ Prepare annual audit/review packages; partner with outside CPA for tax and yearend.Systems Process & ControlsØ Poweruser in QuickBooks Enterprise and lead roadmap to Foundation Software or Sage Intacct Construction within 612 months; integrate with Procore or equivalent.Ø Design and enforce approval workflows document retention and audit trails.Ø Implement positive pay and payment controls; standardize templates (SOV pay app covers waiver packets).Additional Duties: Ø Dual approval for payments: Controller prepares; Owner releases ACH/wires/checks (positive pay enabled).Ø Bank reconciliations are monthly by the Controller; the Owner reviews bank statements and the WIP package.Ø Vendor master changes (banking/address) require the owners signoff with callback verification.Monthly Deliverables (Owner Review Pack)Ø Financials: P&L (consolidated and by job) Balance Sheet Cash Flow.Ø WIP report with earned revenue costtocomplete EAC/ETC and over/under by project.Ø Job Cost to Budget by cost code with variance explanations and GM at completion.Ø 13week cash forecast (rolling) with key cash drivers and collection priorities.Ø AR aging (with retainage) & AP aging (by vendor/sub) with action notes.Ø KPI dashboard: DSO DPO backlog GM change order cycle time cash conversion.RequirementsØ 712 years progressive construction accounting experience with a Commercial General Contractor; prior title as Controller Senior Staff Construction Accountant Construction Accounting Manager or similar. Ø Expert in AIA billing (G702/G703) retainage lien waivers and compliance documentation.Ø Ownership of WIP (percentcomplete) over/under billings EAC/ETC and monthly close.Ø Deep job cost experience at the costcode level; strong variance analysis skills.Ø Systems: QuickBooks Enterprise; advanced Excel; ability to implement Foundation/Intacct and integrate with Procore or equivalent.Ø Knowledge of ASC 606 sales/use tax and 1099NEC.PreferredØ CPA or CCIFP; experience with Foundation or Sage Intacct Construction implementations.Ø Surety/bonding and bank covenant reporting; certified payroll/DavisBacon exposure.Ø CFO level reporting tracking and analysisSoft SkillsØ Owner mindset with strong communicationable to brief leadership on risks and options.Ø Process builder who can simplify standardize and automate without losing control.Ø High integrity and urgency; thrives in a growth environment and playercoach role.BenefitsØ Competitive salaryØ Comprehensive benefits package including: 100% of employees covered health insurance.
