Job Description

What You'll Do:As a Space Surveillance Field Technician (Field Installation Focus), you will play a critical role in the installation, integration, and commissioning of Slingshot's Global Sensor Network (GSN) systems around the world. This position is highly field-oriented, requiring up to 70% travel to domestic and international deployment sites to ensure systems are installed, tested, and fully operational in diverse environments.While in the field, you'll conducthands-on installation and integration activities, including site preparation, hardware setup, cabling, alignment, calibration, testing, and validation of space surveillance systems. You will ensure that all installations adhere to engineering specifications, safety standards, and operational requirements.As needed, you will execute preventative system maintenancetasks ensuring optimal system functionalityWhile in the office, you'll conduct remote troubleshooting of fields system diagnostics, and performance verification. You'll also perform routine system health checks, software and firmware updates, and take corrective actions as needed to maintain system uptime and data quality.You'll work closely with engineering and operations teams to document installation procedures, field instillation results, and performance data, and will contribute to the continuous improvement of installation and maintenance processes. The core competencies we will be looking to identify include: intellectual agility, ability to develop innovative solutions, leadership, performance-orientation, and industry expertise.Position Responsibilities:Must be eligible to obtain or maintain US Government Security ClearanceTravel up to 70% of the time to global sensor locations for system installation, maintenance, and upgrades.Must be capable of international travel to remote locationsPerform hands-on field installation, alignment, calibration, and testing of GSN hardware and software systems.Conduct on-site diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs to resolve technical issues efficiently.Ensure all installations comply with engineering drawings, standards, and environmental requirements.Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to document installation and maintenance procedures.Provide detailed performance reports, site assessments, and recommendations for improvement.Support logistics planning, including packaging, shipping, and customs coordination for deployments.Maintain accurate records in inventory and asset management systems.Contribute to training materialsOther responsibilities up to 10%Minimum RequirementsAssociates degree in a engineering discipline or equivalent of 3 Years Field Technician experience with robotic, optical, or automation systems2+ years of experience in operations and/or sustainmentExcellent communication and documentation skillsAbility to travel up to 75% of the time within and outside of the United States to support sensor installations and repairsStrong problem-solving and hands-on technical skills in mechanical, electrical, or computer systems.Working knowledge of Linux and cloud application toolingAbility to read and interpret schematicsAbility to read and interpret drawings and blueprintsAbility to lift 55 lbs. Regularly as neededAbility to work long periods in both hot and cold temperature environmentsPreferred SkillsObservatory operations and/or telescope sustainment experienceKnowledge of optical systems and experience working with telescopesCustomer-success-driven, hands-on, action-oriented, positive personalityExperience or a keen interest in learning about optical telescope systemsThese skills are guidelines, not hard and fast rules..
