Yamhill County typically hires between steps 1-4Yamhill County Sheriffs Office isactively recruiting to create a pool of diverse female candidates eligibleforcurrent and futureregular full-time entry-level or certified/lateral Deputy positions in our Corrections (Jail) Division.Corrections Deputiesperform work in the care of adults in custody in the Yamhill County Correctional Facility. Duties include maintaining the supervision safety security and sanitation of adults in custody confined in the correctional facility; escorting and transporting adults in custody within the facility to other agencies and any other appointments as necessary; controlling public movement within the correctional facility; and other duties as assigned.Positions require work in a 24-hour per day 7-day a week environment with shift rotation in 8-hour 10-hour or 12-hour shifts depending on assignment. May be required to work with rotating shift schedules including working day swing and night shifts weekends holidays and overtime as required.These positions are represented through Teamsters Local 223. Incentive pay is available for education DPSST certification and bilingual Spanish speakers.These positions carry an 18-month probationary period for entry-level candidates and a 12-month probationary period for certified/lateral candidates.The CandidateSuccessful candidates possess good moral character demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills and put forth a professional image. Must possess: United States citizenship or have the ability to obtain citizenship within one (1) year of hire; an unrestricted state-issued drivers license with the ability to obtain an Oregon drivers license; a good driving record; and a satisfactory work record and personal history (e.g. free of criminal convictions although special circumstances may be considered). A high school diploma/GED is required. Must be able to be certified by DPSST within timeline established by OAR 259-0080060.For CERTIFIED/LATERAL LEVEL APPLICANTS:Applicants must possess a minimum of a current and valid Basic Corrections Certification issued by Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) or equivalent local state or federal certification andsuccessful completion of an agency Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) program. Equivalently certified candidates (i.e. no DPSST certification) must also possess a minimum of three years certified service in the Corrections discipline or a four-year post-secondary degree.DPSST maintains authority to determine acceptable certified transfer of out-of-state certification to Oregon.ALL APPLICANTS:Ability to secure and maintain a drivers license valid in the state of Oregon.Will be required to drive a County vehicle. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an institution and includes exposure to alarms sirens and voice conversations. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday.The employee is regularly required to sit talk or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion handle or feel and to stand walk reach bend climb stairs or lift up to 60 pounds. Often demands restraining escorting and/or carrying inmates weighing between 100 to 250 pounds. May also require running and apprehending and physically restraining uncooperative and violent individuals.
