We are seeking goal motivated team members to join the office. The following are the phases of the interview process to be considered for the position of Court Services Deputy in our County:Phase IApplication and a phone screening interview.Phase IIInterview/s with the Sheriff or his designee/s.Phase IIIFull background investigation.Phase IVConditional offer of employment based on the outcome of the following tests:(1) Drug testing(2) Polygraph(3) Psychological examination(4) Physical fitness for duty examination will be conducted before your start date.Phase VAcceptance of terms of employment and scheduling start date, orientation,and signing of your contract, if applicable.General DescriptionResponsible for keeping the peace in the courthouse and courtroom and conducting all security aspects of the courthouse. The deputy will be on call for Emergency Custody Orders (ECO), Temporary Detention Orders (TDO) or prisoner transport. They may be assigned to inmate work release and civil process.Court security is a part-time hourly position with no benefits. The Court Services Deputy is a sworn, non-exempt deputy who will work a minimum of 24 hours per week and a maximum of 29 hours per week. The King and Queen County Sheriffs Office may provide the Court Services Deputy with a take-home vehicle for job duties if the deputy responds to a minimum of 75% of all callouts and transports.Minimum Requirements:20 years 6 months of ageHigh School Diploma or equivalentValid Virginia Drivers LicenseCourt Security/Civil Process certification with jail or Law Enforcement certificationwithin 1 yearDuties and Responsibilities:Keeping judges, judicial staff, court employees and the public safe.Transportation of all prisoners to the courthouse and back to the correctional facility.Transfer of prisoners to the courtroom and back to designated cell.Supervision of work release inmates.Ensure no weapons are brought into the courtroom.Ensure the public complies with building safety rules.Transfer of papers to judges and case participants when needed.Removing people from the courtroom when needed.Managing metal detectors and search of each person prior to entering the courtroom.Check for suspicious activity in the courtroom and courthouse.Maintain order in the courtroom.Assist the Sheriffs Office as needed with serving civil papers, warrants and making arrests. (This may be identified as a primary job function).Providing security for prisoners or detainees for mental evaluations under ECOS or TDOs.To have a take home car assigned, the Court Deputy must respond to 75% of callouts and transports. They must live in the county or receive a waiver from the Sheriff.The position of Court Services Deputy is inherently a high stress and physically demanding position. All sworn staff must complete a basic course and maintain skills and physical fitness.The following activities are expected of all sworn Court Services Deputies:Sit or stand for long periods of time for 4-8 hours.Bend, reach, climb, and run is often a function completed daily.Lift 0-25 pounds regularly.25-30 pounds often.50+ pounds occasionally.The inherent dangers that may occur is a daily risk.Benchmarks:1 Year of Employment:Law Enforcement or Jail certifiedCourt Security and Civil Process certifiedKing and Queen County is an equal employment opportunity employer.
