Thank you for considering a career at Bon Secours!Scheduled Weekly Hours:40Work Shift: Evenings/Nights (United States of America)Lab Histotechnician (HT HTL MLT or MLS) Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth VirginiaFull Time Evenings/Nights (Monday to Friday 1PM to 9PM)Prior experience as a Lab Histotechnician highly preferred!Job Summary:The Histotechnician will perform various tasks required for receiving processing and preparing tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the Pathologist. The Histology Technician needs to ensure tissue specimens received from surgical diagnostic or autopsy cases are sorted logged and prioritized according to the required standards. Responsibilities include providing the highest quality medical laboratory services working independently and troubleshooting any problems under the general supervision of a manager or lead technologist.Essential Functions:Performs histological procedures including accessioning tissue processing embedding microtomy and stainingAssists the Pathologist in the gross examination of surgical specimens and in frozen section proceduresReport accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient careDocument problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions when neededOperates and maintains all histology area lab equipment in the proper state of readiness cleanliness and sharpens and hone microtome knivesMonitors inventory of supplies equipment and reagents used and places orders for replacements as requiredOther duties as assignedRequired Education:High School Degree or GED (required)Associate of Science (preferred)Certifications:Histotechnician (HT) Certification by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (preferred)Experience:BSM: Histology experience preferred not requiredRSFH: 2 years Histology experience requiredSkills & Abilities:Encourages other lab personnel to work towards professional growth and development by sharing informationAbility to work independently within a team and strong attention to detailAbility to provide quality error-free work in a fast-pasted environmentEngage with staff and patients in a professional mannerBon Secours is an equal opportunity employer.As a Bon Secours associate youre part of a Mission that matters.
