Deer Park School District #414CTE Para Educator (Shop Classes)Location: Deer Park High SchoolShift: 6.5 hours per daySchool Year Only (no conference days unless member of bargaining unit before 10/8/2009.)Begins:January 5th 2026Purpose Statement:The purpose of this position is to assist with the delivery of instructional services and student supervision. Responsibilities vary with the individual assignment. This person will work under the direction of a certificated staff member(s) to provide instruction to students supervise students and assist in classroom student management prepare materials assist with testing and record keeping supervise within the building and outdoors. This position will be primarily in our shop classes. Essential Functions:Maintains and/or assists with student discipline and the maintenance of positive student behavior.Instructs students individually or in small group settings under the direction of both special education and general education certificated employees.Adapts lessons and activities with teacher approval to be used to supplement classroom activities and instructionAssist students specifically in reading writing and basic math adaptation and social/emotional skills.Scores standardized classroom-based student assessmentsPrepares materials and supplies for supplemental activitiesDevelops and maintains student records as directed by the teacherPrepares for and assists with program auditsMaintains high standards of health and safety at all times and reports any concerns relative to student protection to relevant staff or the principalMaintains good relationships with colleagues and works together as a teamAssists in the supervision of classroom building and outdoor activitiesReports to assigned duty areas promptly and reliablyDemonstrates sensitivity and respect for diversity among all members of the school/department or district communityProvides supervision in the female locker room at the beginning and end of designated periods of the day.Para educator may provide outside supervisionPerforms other duties as directed by the building principalAbility to implement structured positive behavioral intervention plans.Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalentCurrent first aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain promptlyCompletion of at least 2 years of study totaling 72 quarter hours at an institution of learning; ORObtained an associates (or higher) degree; ORMet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal para educator competency test. CBAs and Salary Schedules can be reviewed from the Human Resources page of the Deer Park School District website Park policies and Procedures can be accessed online at 2025-2026 base salary range for para educators in the Deer Park School District is between $18.47 and $23.02 per hour. Placement is determined by school district experience. Para Educators who are assigned to self-contained programs such as DLC and Behavioral Programs are provided an additional stipend. Other forms of compensation may be available to the hired applicant in addition to their established salary range or wage scale as defined within the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA).Benefits: This position is benefits eligible including medical dental vision life and AD&D and flexible spending arrangements in accordance with the state School Employees Benefits Board: Benefits: Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12-month period are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
