Job Description
The Data Engineer supports the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) in the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of a large -scale data integration hub. This role analyzes business objectives and system requirements, evaluates alternative solutions, and contributes to all phases of the software development lifecycle within an agile environment. The position is responsible for acquiring, transforming, validating, and publishing data from diverse sources using Informatica, Oracle/Snowflake SQL, and related technologies. The Data Engineer collaborates closely with architects, analysts, and customers to design optimal data solutions, ensure data integrity, and support performance management and analytics functions. This role also contributes technical documentation, automation processes, and operational support to ensure reliability and scalability of the data integration hub.⸻Responsibilities•Analyze business objectives, user requirements, and current operational procedures to identify opportunities for system improvement.•Conduct cost/benefit analysis of alternative technical solutions and document recommended approaches.•Develop detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and steps required to build or modify system components.•Evaluate system capabilities, constraints, and scheduling limitations to determine feasibility of requested enhancements.•Lead or support agile development activities, including user stories, sprint ceremonies, and DD&I phases.•Acquire data from multiple sources and develop complex SQL scripts for transformation into dimensional models.•Design and automate ETL workflows using Informatica Power Center or IICS.•Create and validate database views, materialized views, ETL automation, and verification scripts.•Produce technical specifications, diagrams, mockups, and related documentation.•Collaborate with architects, engineers, and end users to resolve technical issues and ensure data quality.•Assist with configuration and implementation of development tools and data acquisition strategies.⸻RequirementsMinimum Qualifications•8 years Experience developing mappings and workflows to automate ETL processes using Informatica Power Center or IICS.•8 years Experience acquiring and integrating data from multiple data sources/technologies using Informatica for Tableau visualization objects (Oracle, SQL Server, Excel, Access, Adobe PDF).•8 years Experience designing and developing complex Oracle and/or Snowflake SQL scripts that are fast and efficient.•8 years Strong analytical and problem -solving experience as a system analyst for data analytics, performance management, or data warehousing projects.•8 years Technical writing and diagramming experience with tools such as Visio, Erwin, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and MS Project.•8 years Experience planning and delivering software platforms used across multiple organizational units.•8 years Proven ability to write well -designed, testable, efficient code using best software development practices.⸻Preferred Qualifications•6 years Excellent oral and written communication skills.•6 years Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, prioritize conflicting assignments, and switch tasks quickly.•4 years Experience on an agile sprint team.•4 years Understanding of security principles related to healthcare data.•4 years Experience with performance metrics data visualization or business intelligence environments.•4 years Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or equivalent experience.•4 years Prior experience in the healthcare industry.•4 years Prior experience with an HHS agency.•4 years Experience working with PII or PHI data.•4 years Experience designing and developing scripts using Python.•4 years Experience with JIRA software.•2 years Functional knowledge or hands -on design experience with Web Services (REST, SOAP, etc.).•2 years Experience designing and developing code using Java or JavaScript.•2 years Experience developing CI/CD pipelines with GitHub and Git Actions.•2 years Experience as a MuleSoft developer.•2 years Experience developing code in C#.⸻Additional Requirements•Criminal background check as required by Texas law.•Must already reside in Texas; local candidates only (within 50 -mile radius of Austin).•Position is onsite; remote work may be required at HHSC discretion.•May require work during evenings, weekends, and holidays with pre -approval.⸻Work Location and ScheduleLocation: 4601 W Guadalupe St, Austin, Texas 78751Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding Texas state holidays; may require additional hours with approvalWork Arrangement: Onsite (Local candidates only; HHSC may authorize remote work at its discretion)⸻BenefitsHealth Care:Air InfoSec offers an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA), providing up to $350/month in tax -free reimbursements to help cover the cost of your own health insurance premium.
