In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with teams across PlayStation to deliver a scalable and reliable data platform that drives a data-first culture and outlook.As a Data Engineer II, you will develop and maintain server-side applications for shaping, managing, and transforming data on a large geographically distributed infrastructure for PlayStation. Your work will include developing JVM based applications using Kotlin, Scala, or Java, Flink jobs, and APIs to provide real time data and insights across the Cloud Streaming ecosystem to ensure seamless data flow throughout our data pipeline. You bring passion and expertise to continuously improve the value that our data platform provides to data producers and consumers across the organization, providing tooling, standard methodologies, and state-of-the art technology to empower data-driven decisions to the company. You are self-motivated and thrive in a distributed team environment - comfortable taking initiative, handling your own work, and collaborating effectively across time zones and communication channels, embodying our one team mantra!ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement middleware and backend systems capable of handling high throughput and loadDevelop and maintain stream processing jobs using Flink (stateful / stateless), and implement scalable ETL jobs that enable our partners and customers to glean intelligent insightOptimize performance, reliability, and monitoring of the data pipeline stackSupport migration efforts of our on-premises Kafka to new cloud technologiesPerform in-depth analysis of functional or business requirementsContribute to architectural decisions for PlayStation’s cloud streaming data pipelineLiaise with product domain teams to help turn data into information, and information into business valueRequired QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent practical experience3+ years of experience in software development and backend engineering developing and maintaining high throughput and concurrent systems with high availability and fault toleranceProficient in JVM Languages (Kotlin, Scala, Java) and PythonExperience with Apache Kafka, Flink, Spark, and SQLKnowledge of software paradigms like functional programming, object oriented programming, TDDKnowledge of web technologies including REST, JSON, gRPC, and WebSocketsExpertise on data structures (JSON, Avro, Protobuf) as well as unstructured and semi-structured dataExperience with ETL, stream processing, real-time pipelines, and batch processingFamiliarity with software development tools and processes like Git and CI/CDTrack record monitoring and analyzing system performance, isolating issues or bottlenecks that could impact reliability, performance and scalabilitySelf-motivated, strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with geographically remote teamsExperience with Amazon Web Services at enterprise scale including, but not limited to, OpenSearch, MSK, and EKS is a plusExperience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud deployment technologies is a plus#LI-RG1Please refer to our Candidate Privacy Notice for more information about how we process your personal information, and your data protection rights. At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role is eligible for SIE’s top-tier benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, matching 401(k), paid time off, wellness program and coveted employee discounts for Sony products.
