Founded in 2019, Swift supports Civilian, Defense, and Intelligence Community customers across the country and around the globe.We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join our dynamic team in Herndon, VA. In this role, you will influence how data is designed, governed, moved, and leveraged across critical customer environments. This is an opportunity for an engineer who loves solving complex data problems, thrives in a collaborative environment, and wants to build scalable pipelines and platforms that accelerate outcomes.Responsibilities:Architect, build, and optimize secure, scalable, and automated data pipelines across structured and unstructured sourcesDesign and maintain data models, warehouse schemas, and metadata structures to support analytics, reporting, and decision-makingLead development of ETL/ELT workflows using modern tools, frameworks, and cloud-based technologiesPartner with Data Scientists and Software Engineers to prepare, cleanse, transform, and annotate data for use casesDesign and implement advanced table structures, indexing strategies, and performance optimizations for large-scale datasetsEvaluate and integrate third-party tools, APIs, and open-source libraries for text extraction, transformation, and automationDevelop and enhance Python-based data extraction and processing utilities (PDF, MS Word, XML, logs, etc.)Create and maintain relational data structures and loading routines to support analytical workloadsProduce real-time and ad-hoc dashboards, metrics, and operational reports to answer mission-critical questionsSupport and mature data governance and metadata catalogingDocument data architectures, pipelines, infrastructure, and automation patternsParticipate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, reviews, and technical prioritizationProvide technical mentorship and knowledge-sharing to engineering teammates and mission stakeholdersRequirements:5+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or similar technical rolesProficiency in Python, including custom script development and leveraging external packages / APIsExperience extracting text and structured data from multiple formats (PDF, MS Word, XML, logs, JSON, etc.)Strong experience with SQL development, query optimization, and performance tuning (Oracle strongly preferred)Proven experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT pipelines and data workflowsHands-on experience with regular expressions, data parsing, cleansing, and transformation logicExperience designing and modifying data schemas, relational models, and ingestion patternsFamiliarity with data warehousing, metadata management, and data modeling best practicesExperience using version control systems (e.g., Git/GitHub)Ability to communicate complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiencesUS Citizenship and an active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance requiredDo you know anyone for this position, or other positions open at The Swift Group?
