Job Description

Overview Data Scientist (E30-5): Bowhead seeks a Data Scientist with a strong background in data trend analysis to join our team supporting Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), E Department. This position will require onsite work at the Bowhead office or Navy installation. Responsibilities Applies mathematics, statistics, predictive modelling and machine learning techniques to discover meaningful patterns and knowledge in recorded data Plans, designs, creates, amends, verifies, and documents new and amended software components in order to deliver agreed value to stakeholders Building tools for data testing Analyzes data with high volumes, velocities and variety (numbers, symbols, text, sound and image) Develops forward-looking, predictive, real-time, model-based insights to create value and drive or automate effective decision-making Presents findings and data insights in creative ways to facilitate the understanding of data across a range of technical and non-technical audiences Identifies, validates, and exploits internal and external data sets generated from a diverse range of processes Manages data and information in all its forms and the analysis of information structure (including logical analysis of taxonomies, data and metadata) Other duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelors Degree in physics or equivalent experience in data science AND a minimum of 5-8 years of experience as described above. Analytical skills relating to database management and development Knowledge of relational database management systems and data warehousing Experience to create reports and dashboards Virtual Machine or AI experience highly preferred Skill in writing and analyzing structured query language (SQL) queries Coding and software development experience highly preferred Experience and knowledge in mathematical reasoning Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing for required customer support and requirement gathering and validation Knowledge of analytical tools and evaluation techniques Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint Ability to communicate effectively senior government customers. To receive and respond to instructions/assignments, must be able to read, write and speak English. SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location. Physical Demands: • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
