Pay Range: $103,000 - $129,500 per year, depending on experience and qualifications

We are seeking a Database Administrator in the Tacoma, Washington area to support the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of MSSQL, MySQL, and related database systems that support core organizational functions.

This role includes designing, installing, configuring, administering, and optimizing database components across the organization. There is a significant focus on Microsoft Azure, specifically Azure Synapse and data analytics. The Database Administrator will apply strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to identify, communicate, and resolve issues, maximizing the value of IT systems investments.

Responsibilities

Azure Analytics and Infrastructure Engineering

  • Promote changes in Azure DevOps to production Synapse environments
  • Manage Synapse pipelines and coordinate with infrastructure teams to deliver data solutions
  • Design, build, and manage Azure infrastructure to support business demand
  • Troubleshoot data issues related to the Enterprise BI platform in Azure Synapse and Power BI
  • Database Administration

  • Ensure all database servers are backed up in alignment with Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
  • Test backups to ensure Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) are met
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages, including after-hours and weekends
  • Configure SQL Server monitoring tools to minimize false alarms
  • Install and configure new SQL Server environments
  • Deploy approved database change scripts from vendors or internal teams
  • Diagnose and resolve performance issues through server, index, or query optimization
  • Document the company's database environment
  • Plan and manage database capacity, storage, disk space, and growth
  • Proactively identify and resolve locking/blocking and concurrency issues
  • Monitor database server health and configure alerts for performance issues
  • Manage database security per company standards
  • Qualifications

  • On-call troubleshooting experience for at least one production SQL Server for a minimum of one yearYou may not have held the DBA title, but you were the primary escalation point when SQL services experienced issues
  • Experience analyzing DMV queries to assess server-level performance
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as:Extended Events, DTASQL Profiler, DMVs, Data Collection
  • Strong T-SQL query tuning skills
  • 3-7 years of relevant experience
  • Expertise in database schema design, normalization, and indexing strategies
  • Experience with data modeling tools and methodologies
  • Knowledge of backup strategies and disaster recovery planning
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and design
  • Experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and tools
  • Certifications (Optional but Beneficial)

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
  • Certified MySQL Database Administrator
  • MongoDB Certified DBA
