Job Description
Responsibilities and DutiesPerforms technical skills in trade operations and maintenance related to landscape infrastructure; builds multi-purpose systems and structures such as irrigation, roadways, sidewalks, fences, exterior fixtures etc.Provides leadership, mentoring and training to field staff while working closely with Operations Manager to meet expectations and production goals.Supports groundskeeper team development to maintain professional standards. Assists in planning, scheduling and oversee daily operations to include staffing, equipment and material needs.Ensures crews follow proper horticultural practices, plant care, and ability to recognize problems with the landscape i.e., pests, safety, aesthetics. Enforces TU safety regulations and conduct on site audits of safety compliance.Supports onboarding, training, performance evaluations and corrective actions for field staff. Maintains records of daily labor use and jobs completed in workorder system (CMMS).Participates in snow and ice management planning and operations during winter season. Works with Operation manager to ensure satisfaction of both internal and external clients.Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions year-round. Availability for extended or irregular hours during peak landscape and snow seasons.Qualifications and SkillsBachelor’s Degree in horticulture, agronomy or related field.Two years of experience in landscape construction, agronomy or landscape maintenance work.Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.Preference: To be licensed within 6 months as a Maryland Certified Pesticide Applicator, pass the MDE Responsible Personnel Training (green card) and pass the Maryland Roadside Tree Care Expert or other certification from approve Associations.Candidates must possess working knowledge of landscape construction, erosion control, remediation, data collection, storm water and snow and ice management concepts. Working knowledge of turf care, plant healthcare, pruning, general irrigation knowledge and seasonal landscape practices. Softscape methods and techniques for planting and caring for lawns, gardens, shrubs and trees, perennials ; thorough knowledge of and skill in the operations and proper care of assigned hand and power tools and equipment; and the ability to organize and coordinate grounds maintenance work and provide guidance and instruction to grounds personnel. Ability to work independently - Effective communication skills for ability to converse with management, clients, crews and contractors and computer skills required as well as the ability to work at heights up to 35 feet, perform heaving lifting, and work in adverse weather conditions.
