Job Details:
- Pay: $45.00 per hour - $55.00 per hour
- Schedule: 5 days per week and 8 hour shifts
- Shift Schedule: Friday - Tuesday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm and Tuesday - Saturday 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM
- Location: Palo Alto, CA
- Duration: 4-5 weeks initially (extension likely)

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
- LCSW preferred
- California Funeral Director License preferred
- EDRS/FRDS certification strongly preferred
- Minimum 4 years of experience in healthcare or bereavement setting (required)
- Experience in funeral home, mortuary, or decedent care environment (preferred)
- Prior experience in patient satisfaction or customer service (preferred)
- Provide compassionate support to families before and after patient death, ensuring dignity and respectful care
- Serve as the primary point of contact for families regarding post-mortem processes, disposition, and funeral arrangements
- Coordinate closely with nursing staff, physicians, pathology, and external agencies to ensure timely and compliant post-death processes
- Assist with all aspects of post-mortem care including transport, morgue coordination, and preparation for viewing
- Ensure accurate completion and management of death documentation, including EDRS/FRDS entries and medical records
- Oversee proper identification, storage, and handling of decedents in compliance with safety and regulatory standards
- Facilitate autopsy and organ donation processes while respecting legal, ethical, and family wishes
- Conduct next-of-kin determination and communicate sensitive information to families with professionalism and empathy
- Support families with grief resources and coordinate with spiritual care services as needed
- Manage complex case workflows, ensuring timely documentation, coordination, and communication across stakeholders
- Act as subject matter expert providing guidance and education to clinical staff on decedent care processes
- Maintain compliance with all hospital policies, legal requirements, and documentation standards
