InternshipDescriptionWho We Are:The Tahirih Justice Center is a national nonprofit organization that serves women girls and all immigrant survivors of domestic violence sexual assault trafficking and other violence. Our whole-person approach to services provides each survivor with free legal support and social services to secure their rights and build stable lives. We translate our client services work into expert training outreach and policy advocacy to ensure that systems laws and policies protect immigrant survivors from violence and exploitation. Our programs efficiently and effectively leverage donated professional services from a vast network of attorneys medical professionals and other experts to serve as many immigrant survivors as possible. By amplifying the experiences of survivors our mission is to create a world in which all people share equal rights and live in safety and with dignity. Who You Are:You are a champion for human rights and are passionate about achieving justice for all survivors of violence. You are a true believer in the power of storytelling public relations communications and marketing to change hearts and minds which in turn change the laws and policies that affect peoples lives. You are ready to put your excellent writing skills social media savvy and problem-solving skills to work. You are a strong communicator who provides constructive feedback to contribute to the team. This position requires a time commitment of between 10 and 20 hours per week.What Youll Learn:As a member of both the Communications and Development teams you will have the opportunity to learn about how Tahirih leverages strategic communications to reach our fundraising goals and see how a national nonprofit organization supports its direct services training and education and advocacy work. Over the course of the internship you will support individual giving grants events digital communications and marketing while learning how we ensure external communications are survivor- and client-centered inclusive and model cultural humility. Youll have an opportunity to work with and learn from every member of Tahirihs Development and Communications Teams as well as members of our public policy and client services teams.What Youll Do: Work closely with members of the Development and Communications Team to plan and execute our signature fundraising event including supporting with graphic design and other content creation so experience and/or interest in graphic design is a plus.Partner with members of the Development Team to conduct donor outreach and execute stewardship strategiesSupport active fundraising campaignsSupport the posting tracking analysis and reporting of our social media metrics so familiarity with Facebook LinkedIn and Instagram is a must.Update our website with new content so knowledge of HTML and WordPress is a plus.Work with subject matter experts and communications staff to draft emails social media content web posts and other types of communications that break down complex topics into accessible and compelling content.Work with the Development and Communications Team to implement activities to help us engage with our audiences and create content for outreach and fundraising campaigns.Assist with other communications and fundraising activities as needed.Compensation: Tahirih pays interns a $5000 stipend for completing 300 hours over the course of the summer (prorated to the number of hours completed).
