Job DescriptionJob DescriptionAnnouncement Open Until FilledGrade 12; Minimum Wage $22.19 per hourDept/Div: Community Development/N/A---FLSA Status: Non-ExemptGeneral Definition of WorkPerforms intermediate skilled technical work inspecting development construction sites for compliance with Federal, State and local regulations and conformance to plans, specifications, and safety standards, reviewing and preparing reports, maintaining files and records, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Engineer.Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Essential FunctionsPerforms inspections of construction projects on roadways, streets and subdivisions to ensure County and contractor compliance with Federal, State, regional and local construction standards and requirements.Performs inspection work for soil erosion and sedimentation issues on development construction sites; ensures compliance with Federal and State protective measures for soil and water.Performs compliance and inspection work for permitted utility installation of traffic control; ensures restoration of County rights-of-way and corridor locations.Provides proper notification of deviations or errors and advises as to corrective action.Maintains accurate documentation of inspections such as correspondence, files, records and reports.Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent service.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of construction practices, techniques, materials, and equipment relating to public improvement projects; thorough knowledge of street and water line construction, maintenance, and repair practices; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; thorough knowledge of engineering plans, specifications, and drawings; ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and blueprints and to compare them with various aspects of construction in progress; ability to detect errors in construction projects; ability to understand and follow work orders and prepare simple reports; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to perform manual tasks for extended periods, often under unfavorable conditions; ability to effect satisfactory compliance with specifications and standards; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, property owners, associates, and the general public.Education and ExperienceHigh School diploma or GED and considerable experience in construction work related to transportation and roadways, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Physical RequirementsThis work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).Special RequirementsPossession of Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) Level IB certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire.Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records.Valid driver's license in the State of Georgia with favorable driving history (MVR).Last Revised: 12/17/2021
