Diesel Mechanic at Piekarski & Sons
JOB DESCRIPTION
Mulch Masters and Piekarski Tree Service has a fleet of gas and diesel trucks, tree equipment (chippers, mini skid steers, etc.), and mulch production machinery (grinder, loaders, conveyors). We are hiring a full-time in-house mechanic to manage all aspects of equipment maintenance and repair. This is for someone ready to take ownership of preventive maintenance, daily inspections, emergency repairs, and long-term upkeep across our growing fleet. You'll play a vital role in keeping our crews running safely and efficiently each day.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform daily inspections to ensure crews are ready to roll by 6:50 AM
Conduct preventive maintenance and repairs on trucks and other equipment/machinery
Respond to field breakdowns to minimize crew downtime
Maintain digital service records and manage parts inventory
Ensure and manage DOT compliance
Communicate with leadership and the office to schedule repairs and minimize disruption
Consult parts manuals and work with dealers and vendors to accurately identify and source required parts
Source vendors and coordinate work with third-party vendors for work outside of in-house capabilities
Work flexibly to accommodate repairs outside of standard operating hours when needed
What We're Looking For:
Experience with diesel & gas trucks, hydraulic systems, and heavy equipment repair
Strong diagnostic skills and hands-on mechanical ability
Familiarity with reading parts manuals and coordinating with dealers for part procurement
Ability to work independently and take initiative
Willingness to work early mornings (6:00 AM start) and occasional off-hours
Solid organizational and communication skills
Nice to Have:
CDL license (or willingness to obtain)
Experience with forestry, landscaping, or construction equipment
Familiarity with DOT standards and electronic maintenance logs
