Job Summary: A Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing a variety of heavy trash trucks and associated hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. This role requires expertise in diesel engine operation, troubleshooting, and effective repair techniques to ensure the fleet's optimal performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics strongly preferred. Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably with heavy trucks or similar equipment. In-depth knowledge of diesel engines and all associated systems; proficiency in using diagnostic tools and mechanical repair tools. Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license; CDL is a plus. Proven experience as a diesel mechanic in a dealership or similar environment. Strong knowledge of heavy-duty diesel equipment and machinery. Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals. Experience with industrial equipment and forklifts. Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment. Effective communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects.
Ability to Relocate:
Work Hours: Standard business hours with occasional overtime and weekends as needed for emergency repairs.
Salary Range: Is dependent on experience and qualifications

- Perform routine and emergency maintenance on various models of diesel trash trucks, focusing on safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical problems including engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance according to manufacturers' specifications and company safety standards.
- Document maintenance and repair activities, maintaining accurate records for each vehicle.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to develop and implement preventative maintenance programs.
- Provide training and guidance to junior mechanics and support staff as needed.
- Use schematics and technical manuals to diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues.
- Utilize power tools and equipment to complete tasks efficiently and effectively.
- Operate and maintain air brakes and other safety systems.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, including time spent on tasks and materials used.
- Collaborate with other technicians and supervisors to ensure all work is completed to a high standard.
- Stay up-to-date with manufacturer instructions and industry best practices.
