Independent Truck Repair service is seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered trucks and fleet vehicles to ensure safety, reliability, and peak performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and preventive maintenance (PM) on diesel trucks and fleet vehicles
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, brake, engine, and driveline issues
- Repair and replace faulty components including engines, starters, alternators, suspensions, and air brake systems
- Conduct DOT inspections and ensure vehicles meet safety and compliance standards
- Perform oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and tune-ups
- Troubleshoot engine performance issues using diagnostic tools and software
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and work performed
- Respond to roadside breakdowns or emergency repair situations when needed
- Keep shop area clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations
- Communicate effectively with service advisors and fleet managers regarding repairs and timelines
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy-duty truck technician preferred
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and air brake systems
- Experience with diagnostic tools and repair software
- Ability to read and interpret work orders and technical manuals
- Must have own basic tools (specialty tools may be provided depending on shop)
- Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required
- ASE certifications are a plus
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to lift heavy parts and work in physically demanding conditions
Preferred Skills
- Experience working on fleet trucks, trailers, or commercial vehicles
- Knowledge of Cummins, Detroit Diesel, or similar engine platforms
- Welding or fabrication experience (a plus)
- Roadside repair experience
Work Environment
- Fast-paced fleet maintenance shop environment
- Hands-on mechanical work with diesel trucks and heavy equipment
- Occasional outdoor or roadside repair work
- Commitment to safety, teamwork, and reliability is essential
