Independent Truck Repair service is seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered trucks and fleet vehicles to ensure safety, reliability, and peak performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and preventive maintenance (PM) on diesel trucks and fleet vehicles
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, brake, engine, and driveline issues
  • Repair and replace faulty components including engines, starters, alternators, suspensions, and air brake systems
  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure vehicles meet safety and compliance standards
  • Perform oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and tune-ups
  • Troubleshoot engine performance issues using diagnostic tools and software
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and work performed
  • Respond to roadside breakdowns or emergency repair situations when needed
  • Keep shop area clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations
  • Communicate effectively with service advisors and fleet managers regarding repairs and timelines

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy-duty truck technician preferred
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and air brake systems
  • Experience with diagnostic tools and repair software
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders and technical manuals
  • Must have own basic tools (specialty tools may be provided depending on shop)
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required
  • ASE certifications are a plus
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to lift heavy parts and work in physically demanding conditions

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working on fleet trucks, trailers, or commercial vehicles
  • Knowledge of Cummins, Detroit Diesel, or similar engine platforms
  • Welding or fabrication experience (a plus)
  • Roadside repair experience

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced fleet maintenance shop environment
  • Hands-on mechanical work with diesel trucks and heavy equipment
  • Occasional outdoor or roadside repair work
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and reliability is essential
