Job DescriptionJob DescriptionAbout the Role:The Dietary Cook plays a critical role in preparing nutritious and appetizing meals tailored to meet the dietary needs of residents in a long-term care facility. This position ensures that all food preparation complies with sanitation standards and dietary guidelines to promote the health and well-being of individuals under care. The Dietary Cook collaborates closely with dietary staff and healthcare professionals to implement diet therapy plans effectively. Flexibility in scheduling allows the cook to adapt to the dynamic needs of the facility, ensuring consistent meal service. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the quality of life of residents by delivering meals that balance quantity, quality, and nutritional requirements.Minimum Qualifications:Proven experience in quantity and quality cooking within a long-term care or similar facility.Knowledge of sanitation standards and safe food handling practices.Ability to read, write, and understand instructions related to diet therapy and food preparation.Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.Flexibility to work varied shifts as required by the facility.Preferred Qualifications:Formal training or certification in dietetics, nutrition, or culinary arts.Experience specifically in diet therapy and preparing specialized therapeutic diets.Familiarity with manufacturing or institutional food service operations.Additional certifications related to food safety or healthcare nutrition.Responsibilities:Prepare and cook meals in accordance with prescribed diet therapy plans and facility standards.Maintain strict sanitation and hygiene practices in all food preparation and kitchen areas.Work collaboratively with dietary and healthcare teams to accommodate special dietary needs and preferences.Manage quantity and quality of food production to meet the demands of the long-term care facility.Read, write, and understand instructions related to recipes, dietary guidelines, and safety protocols.Adapt to a flexible work schedule to ensure timely meal service throughout the facility.Continuously seek out new methods and principles to improve food preparation and dietary compliance.Skills:The Dietary Cook utilizes sanitation skills daily to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, preventing contamination and ensuring resident safety. Performing work tasks efficiently and accurately is essential to meet meal schedules and dietary requirements.
