JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Digital Communications Systems Technician (DCS Tech) Duration: 12 months contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and business needs. Location: Alhambra, CA- Onsite position Interview Process: Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams. Responsibilities Works under the direction of a Digital Communications Systems Supervisor or user agency personnel. May receive technical guidance from a journey-level Senior Digital Communications Systems Technician (SDCS Tech), higher-level Network Systems Administrator, Telecommunications Systems Engineer, or similar. Installs, configures, tests, maintains, and repairs analog, digital telephone, or data communications systems and equipment. Frequently lifts tools, supplies, and equipment weighing 10 to 25 pounds, and occasionally over 25 pounds. Regularly uses 6-foot and taller ladders. Performs tasks requiring bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Installs, configures, tests, maintains, and repairs analog, digital, and Internet-based communications systems, infrastructure, and equipment. Supports servers hosting applications such as: Voicemail Call recording Automated telephone attendants Interactive Voice Response (IVR) Digital network telecommunications circuits Digital communications equipment such as modems, channel banks, multiplexers, and repeaters Installs, programs, tests, maintains, and repairs: Private Branch Exchange (PBX) systems Key telephone switching systems Cloud Services (MS Teams, Web-Ex, Zoom) Related communications equipment Installs, rehabilitates, and removes cabling infrastructure, including: Copper cabling Fiber-optic cabling Wire management systems Patch panels Jacks Ensures cabling work is completed according to industry standards. Tests, troubleshoots, and repairs telephone and network cabling. Provides technical support for: Telephone equipment moves Equipment additions Equipment changes Confers and consults with vendors and County department representatives regarding: Operational problems Repairs Maintenance Installation of digital communications systems and equipment Works closely with vendors regarding: Operational problems Repair Modification Installation of software, hardware, and circuits Configures, adds, moves, changes, and troubleshoots Voice over IP (VoIP) equipment in an enterprise call control and session management platform. Determines tip-ring and low-voltage wiring color codes for voice functionality. Assists in the technical evaluation of equipment in coordination with engineering and operating personnel. Required Skills Knowledge of protocols, procedures, techniques, and equipment used to: Install, configure, test, maintain, and repair telephone and Internet-based digital communications systems Install, configure, test, maintain, and repair Private Branch Exchange (PBX) systems Install, configure, test, maintain, and repair key switching systems Install, configure, test, maintain, and repair Cloud Services Install, configure, test, maintain, and repair related communications equipment Install, configure, test, maintain, and repair network telecommunications circuits Install, configure, test, maintain, and repair data communications equipment such as modems Ability to troubleshoot: Circuits Systems Infrastructure Equipment Knowledge and experience in: Customer service Interpersonal skills Decision making Organizational awareness Problem solving Oral communication Troubleshooting issues Required Experience Minimum three (3) years of experience in the: Installation Configuration Testing Maintenance Repair Experience must be specifically with: Digital telephone systems Private Branch Exchange (PBX) systems Key switching systems One (1) year of the required experience must have been performed at the journey-level. Required Education High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
