DescriptionPosition Summary:The Digital Solutions Developer will perform several critical functions for Vanderbilts growinginitiatives in digital scholarship broadly and research computing specifically. As a part of the DigitalLab the Developer will serve as the primary technical liaison with key campus partners including theAdvanced Computing Center Data Science institute and Wondry advising on existing local computecapacity and onboarding researchers to its use. Additionally the developer will support the front-enddevelopment of existing digital projects including their technical and administrative infrastructureand partner with cloud engineers students and industry partners to develop digital tools as part ofthe Cloud Innovation Lab powered by AWS. Blending interpersonal skills with technical expertise theDeveloper will collaborate with technologists across the libraries and campus to develop andimplement strategies for collaborative solutions to multifaceted challenges.About the Work Unit:The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries at Vanderbilt University comprises nine libraries as well asservice departments in collectionsservices digital scholarship & scholarly communicationsinformation technology and digital services and teaching & learning. We seek to create a welcomingenvironment and serve as a partner in research and scholarship. The libraries are dynamic places forfaculty staff students and alumni to reflect and discover. By connecting our local community to the world the Lab bolsters Vanderbilts global impact while highlighting our local partnerships and immersive student experiences. The Lab collaborates deeply with other units on campus including Research IT ACCRE Data Science Institute and other groups within the Libraries.Key Functions and Expected Performance: Serve as primary technical liaison between the Digital Lab and campus partners such as ResearchIT the Advanced Computing Center for Research & Education Wondry and the Data ScienceInstitute. Develop and deploy technologies to enhance research and teaching. Coordinate trainings with research groups and individual faculty and staff on local advancedcomputing resources. In coordination with Digital Lab staff Librarians and campus partners seek out and apply forexternal funding opportunities to advance the Labs mission. Consult with students faculty and staff on technologies and methodologies for digital projects.Supervisory Relationships:This position reports to the Senior Director of the Digital Lab and coordinates with internal and externaltechnologists.Education and Certifications Undergraduate degree in computer science or related discipline or relevant experience andcertifications. Post-graduate degree preferred.Experience and Skills: Knowledge of distributed data storage and processing software and frameworks Ability to design and teach methods and technologies in digital scholarship broadly and researchcomputing specifically Experience developing front-end web applications is required Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python HTML/CSS Java as well asJavaScript frameworks is required.Job responsibilities listed herein are intended to be a thorough representation of the duties responsibilities expectations and qualifications for this specific role at the time of hire but should not be considered all-encompassing as actual responsibilities may evolve to include additional duties as assigned based onorganizational and operational needs.
