A Snapshot of Your Day
As a Manufacturing Engineer – Automation & Digitalization with Siemens Energy’s Blades and Vanes team, you will lead the development and continuous improvement of advanced manufacturing automation in the investment casting facility. Your role will involve serving as the technical lead for automation projects, defining system requirements, developing specifications, evaluating suppliers, and overseeing the design, build, testing, and commissioning of automated systems. You will focus on robotics and material handling automation, including conveyor systems, pick-and-place robots, and AGV/AMR technologies. Collaboration with operations, maintenance, quality, engineering, and external suppliers will be essential to transform manufacturing processes through innovative automation technologies that enhance safety, quality, productivity, and operational excellence.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Define user requirements, functional specifications, and technical requirements for automation and robotics projects, focusing on investment casting processes such as wax operations, shell manufacturing, and material handling.
- Design and optimize automation solutions, specifying and integrating advanced manufacturing technologies, including conveyor systems, robotic systems, machine vision, AGV/AMR solutions, and collaborative robots (cobots).
- Develop automation architectures that incorporate PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and robotics controllers, while establishing automation standards and safety requirements in accordance with industry standards.
- Create RFQs and technical bid packages for automation and robotic system procurements, leading supplier identification and technical evaluations to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Manage automation suppliers and system integrators through concept development, design, fabrication, installation, and startup phases, ensuring adherence to Siemens Energy standards.
- Oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), validating system performance against defined KPIs and troubleshooting integration issues to achieve targeted operational objectives.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, with 5+ years of experience in manufacturing automation, robotics, or advanced manufacturing systems (3+ years with an advanced degree).
- Proven experience in specifying, selecting, implementing, and commissioning industrial automation equipment and robotic systems, including hands-on experience with PLC platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or equivalent) and HMI/SCADA systems.
- Experience leading automation capital projects from concept development through startup and operational handoff, including developing technical specifications, RFQs, and supplier evaluation criteria.
- Knowledge of industrial robotics platforms (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Universal Robots, or similar) and experience integrating conveyor systems, robotic cells, machine vision systems, AGVs/AMRs, and automated material handling solutions.
- Strong understanding of machine safety principles, risk assessments, and applicable automation standards, with experience conducting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning activities.
- This position may require an export license from the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. Issuance of any required license is a prerequisite for this position.
