Job Description
Responsible for serving as the company's principal state government affairs advocate and will represent the company's position on legislation to elected representatives, officials, and staff in regulatory agencies and the executive branch for an assigned geographic area or region.Develop and maintain strong external relationships with state and local policymakers, industry groups, and patient and professional organizations within a specified geographic area or regionAll engagement shall be conducted in compliance with our code of conduct and all applicable state and local lobbying laws and regulationsImplement strategies and tactics to shape and influence state policies through a combination of direct lobbying and legislative coalition-buildingParticipate in political fundraising events and the company's PAC activityLead project initiatives and facilitate collaboration with a team of legislative and alliance development consultants and lobbyists to provide direction on approaches and deliver resultsDevelop relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including industry groups, companies, think tanks, business trade associations, and patient/provider groups, to advance the company's agendaRepresent the company at key state/national stakeholder meetings and engage with key external partners to identify opportunities for collaboration to advance common policy prioritiesWork closely with various internal business units to provide strategic counsel, including providing regular updates, conducting briefings, presenting at internal meetings, and staffing senior leadership during state engagementsCollaborate with the internal cross-functional advocacy team to execute on the strategic and tactical plan and identify opportunities for engagement with external partners in a constantly changing environment.Job SpecificationsTypically has the following skills or abilities:Master's or Juris Doctorate degree preferredEight years of experience working within state government, government affairs/advocacy, health policy, or relevant industry experienceOptical industry and managed vision care experience preferredExperience engaging with stakeholders and navigating political relationships to drive policy agendasAbility to move quickly and navigate multiple projects over short and long-term horizonsIntuitive understanding of the intersection between policy and business strategy/outcomesBusiness acumen, including a keen understanding of legislative and regulatory processes and impacts on business unitsExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex policy issues to diverse audiencesExcellent judgement regarding strategic policy priorities, taking into consideration the political and communications landscapeAbility to work independently as well as with a team, and able to produce timely, high-quality work with limited supervisionAbility to travel up to 40% requiredRole expected to cover Texas and contiguous states including MissouriSuccessful candidates expected to live in or near AustinSalary Range: $150,000.00 - $200,000.00#LI-VISIONCAREVSP Vision is an equal opportunity employer and gives consideration for employment to qualified applicants without regard to age, gender, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
