The Director, IT Procurement Applications will lead the global delivery, support, and transformation of enterprise procurement systems. This role is accountable for the end-to-end Source-to-Pay (S2P) and Procure-to-Pay (P2P) platforms including solutioning in SAP S4, Ariba, Fieldglass, Concur, and ORO.

This leader will oversee strategic initiatives, system lifecycle management, vendor coordination, and program delivery across core ERP platforms and its peripheral systems. The role requires strong business partnership, technical understanding, and operational leadership to ensure scalable, compliant, and high-performing solutions across a complex application landscape.

This role will report to the Senior Director, ERP Finance & Commercial Solutions.

This is a site based position at our global headquarters in Foster City, CA. We do offer a hybrid environment with 3 days on campus (Tues-Thurs) and two days work remote.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead global procurement application delivery and roadmap execution
  • Own S2P and P2P processes across sourcing, supplier management, workforce, and expense
  • Drive system stability, performance, and enhancements
  • Manage escalations and ensure timely issue resolution
  • Enable transformation initiatives and platform modernization

Procurement Solution Leadership

  • Set strategy for procurement applications and ecosystem
  • Lead platform design and evolution aligned to enterprise goals
  • Ensure scalability, performance, and resilience
  • Provide architecture and integration expertise. Evaluating and recommending the best path forward based on company goals.

Business Alignment & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with Procurement, Finance, and Supply Chain leaders
  • Translate business needs into scalable IT solutions
  • Drive alignment and influence senior leadership

Program Delivery & Governance

  • Lead a global team responsible for procurement support, enhancements, roadmap execution, and transformation initiatives.
  • Oversee production support, including issue escalation and resolution of critical incidents to ensure business continuity.
  • Establish and maintain governance frameworks, operating models, delivery standards, and KPIs for global Procurement delivery.
  • Drive disciplined execution across large-scale ERP programs, ongoing support, and strategic transformation initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX, GxP, and enterprise architecture standards, including adherence to financial controls and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee release management, delivery quality, and risk mitigation across enhancements and projects.
  • Partner with change management teams to drive adoption, training, and overall business readiness.

Cross-Functional Integration

  • Oversee integrations across the broader finance ecosystem, including:
    • Oracle FCCS (financial consolidation)
    • SAP
    • Boundary Systems
  • Ensure seamless end-to-end process integration across procurement, tax, vendor management, workforce, and expense systems.
  • Partner with enterprise architecture and engineering teams to support a cohesive system landscape.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Champion continuous improvement across finance processes and supporting technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate workflows. Drive adoption of innovative solutions, including AI, advanced analytics, and SAP BTP capabilities.
  • Capture lessons learned and embed operational excellence across Procurement delivery and support. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and results.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Finance, Business, or a related field. 12+ years of relevant experience with an advanced degree, or 15+ years with a bachelor's degree, in Finance, IT, SAP, or ERP leadership.
  • Deep expertise in Ariba, Concur and other SAP applications 5+ years of leadership experience managing global SAP or ERP teams and/or large-scale support organizations.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale SAP S/4HANA implementations, transformations, and/or global ERP delivery programs.
  • Exposure to SAP RISE or cloud transformation
  • Strong understanding of global Finance processes, financial controls, and integrated finance ecosystems.
  • Experience with complex integrations across SAP and non-SAP enterprise platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and drive end-to-end STS process design and optimization. Strong communication, stakeholder management, decision-making, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic priorities, compliance requirements, and operational execution with a strong focus on outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Life Sciences or regulated industries. Knowledge of SOX, GxP, and compliance-driven environments.
  • Exposure to RISE with SAP, SAP BTP, and cloud-based transformation initiatives.
  • Background in Procurement process optimization, automation, and digital innovation.

The salary range for this position is: $210,375.00 - $272,250.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
