DescriptionWe are looking for an experienced legal leader to guide education, employment, and regulatory matters for an organization in Roseville, California. This role partners closely with organizational leadership and school stakeholders to provide practical legal direction, reduce risk, and support compliant operations across multiple areas of law. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of California legal frameworks, sound judgment in complex situations, and the ability to coordinate effectively with external counsel and regulatory partners.Responsibilities:• Track developments in California and federal laws affecting charter schools and translate those changes into clear guidance for leadership and school teams.• Counsel senior leadership on education-related legal issues, policy interpretation, and compliance expectations tied to charter school operations.• Help school partners understand statutory and regulatory duties while ensuring organizational services remain aligned with applicable legal standards.• Work with board counsel and public agencies on matters such as charter renewals, revisions, and other compliance-related issues.• Oversee legal matters involving the organization and engage outside counsel when specialized support or formal representation is needed.• Act as the central liaison with school counsel when disputes, claims, or proceedings affect both school operations and the organization.• Provide direction on student discipline procedures, due process considerations, and legal obligations related to school operations.• Advise on special education and disability compliance requirements under federal and California law, and coordinate legal support for hearings, complaints, or appeals when necessary.• Serve as the internal legal resource for employment matters, including workplace investigations, policy compliance, separations, agreements, labor law issues, accommodations, and workers’ compensation coordination.Requirements• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active attorney licensure required.• At least 5 years of legal experience with demonstrated work in education law, employment law, or closely related areas.• Strong understanding of California and federal regulations affecting charter schools or public education environments.• Experience managing legal disputes, coordinating with outside counsel, and supporting organizational risk management efforts.• Ability to draft legal documents, including motions and formal correspondence, with accuracy and professionalism.• Knowledge of student due process, special education compliance, disability accommodations, and labor law considerations.• Effective communication skills with the ability to advise executives, school leaders, and cross-functional teams on complex legal issues.Job typePerm
