Clay County Medical Center is hiring a dynamic, success-driven, and relationship-centered Director of Nursing (DON).
General Summary:
This is a full-time leadership position responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and allocation of resources to support the day-to-day operations of Clay County Medical Center’s Medical-Surgical Department, Birthing Center, Pharmacy Department, Respiratory Therapy Department, and other designated hospital-based service lines.

The Director of Nursing provides oversight and leadership for personnel involved in patient care delivery within assigned departments. This role collaborates closely with physicians, executive leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to implement policies, procedures, standards, and regulatory requirements. The Director of Nursing plays a key role in promoting exceptional clinical quality, patient safety, staff development, and a culture of collaboration that results in high-quality patient-centered care.
These responsibilities are accomplished by establishing appropriate performance standards and expectations. The Director is responsible for the proper planning and allocation of resources under their control to include the preparation and monitoring of the annual operating budget and objectives consistent with Clay County Medical Center’s strategic plan. All duties are performed consistently with Clay County Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Principal Job Functions:
- Participates in and/or leads meetings, committees, and strategic planning projects as assigned by CEO.
- Oversees goals and objectives, plans and programs in alignment with the overall goals and objectives of Clay County Medical Center.
- Responsible for supervising inpatient service departments at Clay County Medical Center by facilitating the highest possible level of quality patient care.
- Role includes planning, organizing, scheduling, and performing nursing care in the units assigned.
- Serves as the primary coordinator of efforts between Inpatient Services and other hospital based departments.
- Oversees, leads, and participates in regularly scheduled inpatient department huddles
- Responsible for maintaining proper staffing levels, planning and budgeting, supply management, attending meetings as required and communicating critical information back to Inpatient Services team members.
- Anticipates changes and provides comprehensive recommendations to the CEO to facilitate planning and preparation for requirements.
- Maintains nursing staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training nurses
- Establishes a compassionate environment.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
- Maintains nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures
- Works closely with the CCMCs Education Coordinator who will aid in educating department team members of the current hospital-wide regulations to deliver ideal patient care
- Promotes effective communication, collaboration, quality, and efficiency between departments and managers throughout Clay County Medical Center.
- Oversees the departmental budgetary procedure for each department under the Director’s supervision to ensure proper operational and capital planning; appropriate and efficient use of resources; and consistent compliance to budgetary and fiscal controls.
- Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, coaching, mentoring, evaluating and retaining coordinators, and department managers. Includes professional development of coordinators and department managers.
- Performs service excellence initiatives such as AIDET.
- Responsible for the overall quality of care delivered to patients with the departments under the Director’s supervision, including implementation, execution, follow-up, and alignment with Clay County Medical Center’s quality objectives.
- Responsible for the overall patient satisfaction results in each department under the Director’s supervision. Works with and through others to get positive organizational results.
- Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Three (3) or more years of experience in nursing leadership in an acute care hospital setting. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Current Kansas Registered Nurse license. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and very strong organizational skills required.
