JOB DESCRIPTION

About the Role



Director of Nursing works alongside the leadership team helping Solheim achieve it's goals by effectively planning, organizing, developing, and directing the nursing services to ensure the highest degree of quality care meets the total needs of the residents in accordance with current Federal, State, and company regulations and/or guidelines.



Responsibilities



  • Makes daily rounds to observe residents and ensures all appropriate and necessary nursing care is provided.
  • Maintains effective staffing levels.
  • Maintains and/or establishes necessary policy and procedures.
  • Interacts with residents and families/responsible parties and staff; answers questions, gives directions and support.
  • Directs admissions and discharges; coordinates with acute hospital and Solheim’s Admission Coordinator.
  • Oversees and assists in the development of preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each resident; ensures accuracy of the MDS of each resident before transmittal.
  • Ensures equipment, medication and supplies adequately meet the needs of residents and the department; oversees ordering of supplies; recommends equipment and supply needs of the department to the Sr. Director of Healthcare Services.
  • Participates in the budget process; reviews invoices and manages within the budget.
  • Provides oversight and participates in the hiring, retention, orientation, evaluation and counseling of staff; acts on staff concerns.
  • Conducts staff meetings and oversight of staff training; provides leadership training that includes administrative and supervisory principles essential for Nurse Supervisors and Charge Nurses.
  • Participates in continuing educational programs to keep abreast of changes in Federal and State regulations and Medicare guidelines.
  • Attends interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Participates in OBRA/PDPM Review Meetings.
  • Participates in Board Committees, department head staff meetings, and other meetings as required.
  • Maintains a substantial and credible compliance with Federal and State Regulations.
  • Maintains professional practices in keeping with current standards in the community.
  • Adheres to payroll policies.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance.
  • Adheres to Compliance Plan and HIPAA regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Qualifications



  • BSN degree.
  • NADONA/LTC Certification preferred.
  • Two years previous experience as a Director of Nursing.

  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency preferred.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate effective personal and operational organizational skills.
  • Desire and ability to work with ill, aged and disabled persons.
  • Willingness and ability to read, write, speak, understand English and have the communications skills necessary to provide accurate information to residents and staff.
  • Willingness and ability to follow written and verbal direction in English.
  • Willingness and ability to maintain appropriate level of confidentiality and privacy.
  • Willingness and ability to interact professionally with all customers, including the ill, aged, disabled persons and co-workers, individually and as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to effectively handle multiple items/tasks as required and adapt favorably to changing priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to make appropriate judgments, decisions and problem solving in a timely manner and within the context of the situation at hand.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize items/tasks as required.
  • Willingness and ability to effectively respond to emergency and/or crisis situations.
  • Willingness and ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Willingness and ability to understand and comply with Federal, State, and local regulations.



Preferred Skills



  • Active California RN license.
  • CPR Card.
  • Fire Card.
  • Annual PPD.
  • Annual physical.
