Job DescriptionJob DescriptionCook - Full TimeShift: Variable 8 hour shiftsJob Description:PATIENT POPULATION: The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Food & Nutrition Service Director, the Cook functions in all food preparation and provides direction in the absence of Food Service leadership. Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act. (Gov’t. Code §§ 3100, 3102)Needs to recognize that they have an affirmative duty and responsibility for reporting perceived misconduct, including actual or potential violations of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, or this organization’s standards/code of conduct.The employee shall work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines; and the incumbent shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to calculate simple mathematical problems. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual should be a high school graduate or equivalent.ServSafe certificate preferred.Responsibilities and Essential Functions: *Indicates Essential Function 1 * Ensures Infection Control guidelines are followed. Follows established safety and sanitation while cleaning designated areas. 2 * Prepares and cooks patient and café meals, utilizing recipes and ingredients according to directions. All plates garnished appropriately. 3 * Utilizes food overages within timeframe established by department policy. Minimizes the potential for food overages by batch cooking and watching usage throughout the shift. 4 * Serves hot foods on tray-line as scheduled. Serves in a timely fashion as food is called; handles plates/dishes by edges; handles foods appropriate utensils and portion in designated amounts as required by the menu. 5 Helps assemble late trays, as needed, and run late trays. 6 Stores foods appropriately. Covers, dates and labels all foods for storage in appropriate containers as per department policy. Maintains FIFO and discards expiring items. 7 Manages time effectively to meet patient and department workload. 8 Follows established recipes and portions for all patient menu items.
