Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Senior Vice President for Clinical Services (SVPCS), the Director of Patient Safety has primary oversight of the Health System patient safety program. The DPS functions as the Healthcare System's primary resource for Patient Safety and leads efforts to develop and execute patient safety strategy and tactics. The DPS communicates routinely with Health System staff and providers in the hospital and ambulatory system to identify barriers to the delivery of safe patient care. The DPS is responsible for ensuring that the Health System meets all National Patient Safety Goals as outlined by The Joint Commission. The DPS also is primarily responsible for administering system patient safety surveys to staff and providers and communicating the findings of any survey to Senior Health System leadership. The DPS assists in maintaining Magnet status as well as all other System-level Quality and Safety goals and participatory events. The DPS coordinates the activities of the Safety Event Review Committee.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is preferred. Five or more years of relevant clinical and/or risk management experience are required, with background in the following areas preferred: direct patient care; patient safety program implementation and management; knowledge of State, Federal and accrediting requirements as they relate to National Patient Safety Goals and patient safety indicators. Experience with performance improvement and process improvement initiatives, strong knowledge of clinical operations, teamwork experience working cross-functionally throughout multiple disciplines required. Must possess optimistic personal outlook with high energy and motivational skills. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with all levels of staff and providers. Must be a flexible and effective connector and leader by influence and an ability and desire to work within team structure. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
