OverviewExecutive Medical Director, Heart & Vascular InstituteAdventHealth Mid-America Region – Kansas City AreaAdventHealth is seeking an accomplished and visionary physician leader to serve as Executive Medical Director (EMD) of the AdventHealth Heart & Vascular Institute (HVI). This individual will provide strategic and clinical leadership for cardiovascular services across the Mid-America Region, fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary teams and advancing the Institute’s mission to deliver world-class heart and vascular care.This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of cardiovascular medicine within a dynamic and rapidly growing regional health system, developing destination programs in structural heart, electrophysiology, vascular surgery, and advanced heart failure—while maintaining a personal connection to clinical practice.Role OverviewThe Executive Medical Director will:Lead the strategic direction, growth, and performance of cardiovascular services across the Mid-America Region-including cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, vascular surgery, electrophysiology, imaging, and preventive cardiology.Partner in a dyad model to ensure excellence in clinical outcomes, physician engagement, operational performance, and financial stewardship.Foster alignment among cardiovascular physicians across multiple campuses (Shawnee Mission, South Overland Park, Lenexa City Center, Ottawa) to build a unified, integrated service line. Advance research, innovation, and education by expanding clinical trials, developing academic and industry partnerships, and strengthening national reputation.Promote an exceptional patient experience, uphold AdventHealth’s mission and values, and lead initiatives in quality, accreditation, and process improvement.Dedicate approximately 50% of time to leadership and administrative responsibilities while maintaining active clinical practice in a specialty area.Candidate ProfileSkills & QualitiesCharismatic, credible, and collaborative physician leader who can build trustProven ability to mentor teams and foster multidisciplinary collaborationStrong communication, relationship-building, and strategic planning skillsDeep understanding of cardiovascular program operations, finance, and accreditation standards (ACC, STS, IAC, VQI)Visionary mindset with the ability to translate strategy into measurable goalsExperience & CredentialsTen or more years of cardiovascular clinical practice (cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, or vascular surgery)Demonstrated success leading or developing a nationally recognized cardiovascular program • Board certified in area(s) of specialtyEligible for Kansas physician medical licensureExperience in research, medical education, and professional society engagement (ACC, STS, SVS, HRS)Preferred: M.B.A., M.H.A., or equivalent graduate degreeHospital DescriptionAdventHealth Shawnee Mission, located in Merriam, Kansas, is a 504-bed acute care hospital serving the Kansas City metro area, particularly Johnson County.
