Position Description

Position Summary

New River Electrical is looking for a qualified Director of Technical Services acting in a leadership capacity in the construction industry. The Director of Technical Services will lead a newly established organization, responsible for driving excellence in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Design. With full P&L responsibility for external services, the Director will build a multi-disciplinary team that supports multiple crafts and provides technical oversight for in-house and subcontracted work on key projects. This role reports to the Executive Vice President, Operations.


Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Define and implement the vision, strategy, and operational framework for Technical Services, aligning with corporate objectives and industry standards.
  2. Establish and maintain robust Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  3. Lead the engineering and design function, ensuring designs meet safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness criteria.
  4. Manage financial performance for the Technical Services organization, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization. Grow the organization into a profit center.
  5. Partner with Operations / Project Management teams to ensure seamless integration of technical services across all phases of project delivery.
  6. Build and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, quality specialists, and technical experts to support multiple crafts.
  7. Identify and mitigate technical risks associated with design, quality, and commissioning activities.
  8. Drive process improvements and implement best practices to enhance efficiency, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
  9. Serve as the primary technical liaison for internal leadership and external partners, ensuring transparency and alignment on project objectives.
  10. Travel for this position is required and will consist of overnight stays.

Position Requirements

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline; professional engineering license preferred.
  2. Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering design, quality management, or technical leadership within the energy utility or related industry.
  3. Proven track record of managing P&L and delivering results in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment. Ability to collaborate across the organization and function effectively in a matrix structure.
  4. Strong knowledge of quality standards, regulatory compliance, and engineering design principles.
  5. Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  6. Ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives while managing day-to-day operational priorities.
  7. Exhibit the highest level of business ethics and consistently adhere to and promote New River's values and beliefs.
