Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director, the Accommodations Specialist develops and directs a wide range of academic accommodations and support services to college students with disabilities to facilitate equal access, promote student success, and improve retention and graduation at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Job Duties

  • 60% – Direct Services to Students with Disabilities/Case Management
    • Conduct student interviews, determine level of service, and recommend authorizations for support services and ADA academic accommodations.
    • Interpret disability documentation from medical service providers to identify eligible students.
    • Provide disability management advising and authorize accommodations; coordinate support services to full caseload.
    • Provide backup advising for fellow specialists in their absence.
    • Participate in team discussions on legal and technological updates, difficult cases, and challenging requests.
    • Conduct accurate data entry for services provided.
  • 30% – Faculty/Staff/Student/Community Liaison
    • Ensure authorized academic accommodations are delivered as mandated.
    • Consult with faculty and staff to provide accommodations appropriately.
    • Represent DRC and advocate for students in committees and campus meetings.
    • Provide workshops, education, and training on disability and DRC services.
    • Conduct outreach activities for prospective students and families.
    • Develop supporting materials for educational, training, and outreach activities.
    • Direct families and students to referral resources as needed.
  • 10% – Special Projects and Other Duties
    • Organize meetings with campus partners regarding policy updates.
    • Assist with ADA/504 compliance research and recommendations.
    • Develop and direct special projects, including proposal development.
    • Perform other duties assigned to support the DRC mission and goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience or training.
  • Experience coordinating services for adult students with disabilities in a post-secondary environment.
  • Knowledge and experience analyzing complex situations and identifying solutions; skills in program development, administration, and improvement.
  • Sound judgment and discretion with confidential materials; ability to determine escalation resources.
  • Excellent oral communication skills for presentations and interactions at all organizational levels.
  • Excellent writing skills, including professional correspondence, proposals, and reports.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member; excellent listening and clear information conveyance.
  • Strong organizational skills, record keeping, and confidentiality.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Case management experience in a higher education or mental health setting.
  • Experience interacting with adults with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of current industry trends related to post-secondary academic disability services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Student Affairs or related field.
  • At least one year of experience in higher education.
  • Experience with mental health services.
  • Knowledge and skills in universal design and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Ability to interpret medical and diagnostic reports.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English or ASL/English.
  • Experience supervising student staff or interns.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
  • Must pass the employment misconduct disclosure process.
  • Ability to work long periods at a computer.
  • May work primarily on campus with possible remote work; must be able to work from home if a hybrid schedule is confirmed.
  • Variable schedule may be required.
  • Must complete training within established time frames, including UC compliance training.
  • Must comply with the University vaccination policy.
  • Position is a Mandated Reporter under CANRA; must report child abuse and may sign required statements.
  • Must exercise discretion with sensitive information and safeguard confidential data in accordance with privacy laws.

  • Final candidate must disclose any administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years related to misconduct, allegations, disciplinary proceedings, appeals, or evidence of misconduct as defined by UC policies.
  • "Misconduct" includes violations of workplace conduct policies, sexual harassment, discrimination, dishonesty, or unethical conduct.
